ORCHESTRA OPENS SEASON
Chicago People's Symphony Orchestra, with P.
Marinus Paulsen Conductor, Began Third Season
at Eighth Street Theater.
The Chicago People's Symphony Orchestra, P. Ma-
rinus Paulsen, conductor, will open its third season
Sunday afternoon at the Eighth Street Theater, 741
South Wabash avenue. The concerts will be given
at the same hour, 2:45 p. m., on October 21, Novem-
ber 4 and 18,December 2 and 16, January 13 and 27,
February 10 and 24, March 10 and 24, April 7 and
21, and May 5.
The orchestra will be assisted by Milan Lusk, vio-
linist, who has just returned from Europe. While
abroad he paid a short visit to the Italian capital,
where he gave a special violin concert before Benito
Mussolini at the Villa Torlonia, the Duce's summer
residence. Signor Mussolini himself plays the violin,
and many noted violinists have played before him,
but Mr. Lusk is the first American violinist to have
entertained the Italian Dictator with a concert of
classical music.
Mr. Paulsen is one of the best known of American
conductors, and has, in addition, won distinction as a
violinist and composer. One of his larger composi-
tions is the sacred cantata "Love Triumphant." In
1923 he won the $1,000 prize offered by the Chicago
Theater for the best tone poem, with "Four Oriental
Sketches," conducting its first performance in the
Chicago Theater. In the spring of 1926, a choral
and orchestral concert was given in Orchestra Hall,
the program being devoted entirely to Mr. Paulsen's
compositions, with the composer conducting.
cathedral tone—a vast improvement that all truly
tone-conscious people will recognize instantly. Hear
it. Test your own tone-consciousness."
One of the outstanding events staged by the Day-
ton, O., store since removal to the new building, 126
South Ludlow street, two years ago, will be a two-
day sale of musical merchandise and pianos which
starts this week and will continue this week.
