GERMAN HARMONICA INDUSTRY.
There is further talk of amalgamations in the Ger-
man harmonica industry. A good 95 per cent of the
world's production of this instrument is of German
origin; although competition arose during the war
in America and Japan, which with inferior quality
and lower prices managed to get a position in some
markets. But with superior quality and organization
Germany has been able steadily to improve her posi-
tion, notwithstanding that her important markets—
above all, Russia, Poland and even China—remain
closed against her, while in other lands high duties
and other importation obstacles are operative.
