VIOLIN BOWS.
There are bows and bows and then bows, bows
which cost a dollar and a few that sell for from $1,000
to $3,000 each, says Jay C. Freeman, violin expert,
in the New York World. A fairly good bow may
be had at $15. A standard make bow like that of Hill
& Sons of London, from $27.50 for the cheapest style
to $150 for the best. The best French makes like
Sartory & Lamy, Fetique, and the best German bows
of Prager, Pfretschner, Xurinberger, as well as Amer-
ican bows, from $25 to $75. Commercial qualities
cost from $2 to $25, and have little artistic value to
recommend them.

A ROUMANIAN PRODUCT.
The industry of supplying "resonance" wood in
Roumania for the manufacture of sound-boards, vio-
lin "base bars," and for forth, which was completely
dislocated during the war, has very rapidly righted
itself. Eight or ten per cent of this wood comes
from the North of Moldavia, Bukovina, and the Val-
ley of the Mouresh, and is exported into every coun-
try in Europe, Germany taking a large proportion.
