MUSIC BUSINESS IMPROVES
IN SOUTHERN INDIANA
News from That Section Denotes Lively Trade and
Optimistic Expectations by Music Dealers.
Retail music dealers in Evansville and other towns
in southern Indiana report that April trade has shown
some improvement over the month of March. Busi-
ness conditions continue to improve gradually and
dealers are looking for a very good summer and
fall trade. Dealers in band instruments expect a very
good business.
Thomas Grimwood, associated with the Harding
& Miller Music Company at Evansville, has returned
from a business trip through southern Indiana and
reports trade looking up to some extent.
Robert F. Hoehner, well known phonograph sales-
man at Evansville, is building a modern home on
Outer Lincoln avenue in that city.
The Harding & Miller Music Company of Evans-
ville, Ind., will be represented in Evansville amateur
baseball circles this year, it has been announced by
W. H. Sandefur, manager of the recently organized
diamond squad. The Music Company's team will
seek games with teams from southern Indiana, south-
ern Illinois and western and northern Kentucky.
J. Mitchell Humphreys, Jr., of Evansville, has
signed a contract with the Detroit Symphony orches-
tra for the 1928-29 season. Humphreys is a well
known violinist.

HOLDS FORMAL OPENING.
The E. H. Hancock Music Co., Seymour, Ind., last
week formally opened its new store on Chestnut
street. The crowd attending the opening was so
great that all those who wished to gain entrance could
not do so. Fully 3,500 people visited the store. Mr.
Hancock gave out souvenirs and flowers and had an
orchestra and soloists. In the window there was
shown an art model Gulbransen minuet. T. W.
Perkins, representative of the Gulbransen Company,
was among those who attended the opening.
CHICKERING AGAIN SELECTED.
The Provincial Musical Festival, an annual event
of importance to Canadian music lovers, will be held
during the week commencing May 14 in Lethbridge.
This year the Chickering piano has been selected for
use in this musical festival. It has also been an-
nounced by Willis & Co., Ltd., that the Chickering
concert grand has been selected for the Werrenrath
concert to be given in Calgary on May 7.
