AND MUSICIAN DIES
Martin Loy Hanna, Prominent in Music and Music
Trade Field, Dies After Short Illness.
Martin Loy Hanna, aged 73, of 309 North Mercer
street, New Castle, Pa., one of the city's foremost
musicians and established merchants, died January 9
in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh, of acu'.e periton-
itis. Mr. Hanna had been continuously in the music
business for 56 years in Washington street locations,
being the owner of a music store on the Public
Square at the time of his death.
He was an accomplished player of the organ, piano
and 'cello. It was in the playing of the latter instru-
ment that he was better known in recent years, being
a member of the New Castle Consistory Orchestra.
Mr. Hanna was born in that city, April 31, 1854
and had been identified all his life with the use and
sale of musical instruments.
His father, James C. Hanna, a watchmaker, came
to that city in 1848, and eventually added musical
instruments to his jewelry business. M. Loy Hanna
as a youth of seventeen years became associated with
the business of J. C. Hanna, later becoming a part-
ner under the firm name of J. C. Hanna & Son. He
had been connected with the music business in this
way since seventeen years of age until the time of
his death.
He is survived by one son, Carl L. Hanna, who
will continue the business.
THE PLATT OPENING.
A special air mail letter from the Platt Music Co.,
Los Angeles, contained the following artistically
printed invitation: "You are invited to the formal
opening of the new Downtown Home of the Platt
Music Company, 832 South Broadway, on Friday,
January 27, 1928, from eleven in the morning to
nine in the evening."
C. A. SCOTT HOME FROM TRIP.
C. A. Scott, head of the Marquette Piano Com-
pany, 2421 Wallace street, Chicago, has just returned
from a trip to Pittsburgh, Toledo and Detroit. He
said that trade in that section might be better, but
that he heard that it was much improved at New
York and vicinity. Iowa, he believes, is going to be
