GUESSING CONCERTS ARE
NOVELTIES IN SWEDEN
New Form of the Music Contest Inaugurated in
Stockholm by Weil-Known Conductor.
A Steinway grand piano is the first prize in a
"guessing concert" series, a novelty in musical edu-
cation being promoted in Sweden by E. Westberg, a
well-known Swedish orchestra conductor and com-
poser.
Two months before the first concert a small sub-
scription book will be published containing the names
of all the composers and their compositions to be
given during the season, but no date is indicated for
any special item. The public has thus time to be-
come acquainted with all the compositions through
playing or hearing them at home on the piano, the
playerpiano or talking machine, before the season
opens. After every concert the listeners have to
answer questions as to the name, nationality and his-
TRIO PRAISES 'TOM THUMB."
The Madelyn Young Trio, three talented young
people who have charmed concert audiences every-
where, recently wrote to George W. Allen, president
of the Milton Piano Company, New York, in appre-
ciation of his new little "Tom Thumb" model. At a
recent concert in Texas the Trio used a "Tom
Thumb" piano with greatest success. The "Tom
Thumb" was loaned for the occasion by the A. C.

GOOD PUBLICITY OF
THEARLE MUSIC CO.
Gulbransen Registering Piano Used in Station
KFFB of San Diego, Calif., Under Direc-
tion of Leopold A. Poulin.
An excellent organization has been formed by the
Thearle Music Company, of Sa.n Diego, Calif , under
the direction of Leopold A. Poulin, for broadcasting
classical music with the use of the Gulbransen Regis-
tering Piano as a solo and accompanying instrument.
This radio work has been carried on by the Thearle
Music Co. since last May. There has been a series
of weekly music hours over Station KFFB of San
Diego. The public has responded most enthusiasti-
cally with letters of request and congratulation.
Mr. Poulin has kept the music strictly classical and
has offered the public nothing but the very best.
Back of every selling success is found enthusiasm
and a sincere belief in the article being sold. This
is certainly true in the case of Mr. Poulin, who was
one of the winners in the Gulbransen Summer Sales
Campaign.
Mr. Poulin comments as follows in regard to that
campaign:
Gulbransen Inspires Enthusiasm.
"At this time I wish to tell you that when you
announced this campaign I entered into it with not
only the spirit of winning the recognition and honor
but with the natural enthusiasm that I have always
brought to the selling of pianofortes which I find
most necessary to any one entering into a campaign
of this sort. If only every salesman selling a product
of the high grade type of Gulbransen would realize
the tremendous force of advertising, quality product
and cooperation of organization, with all these fac-
tors behind them, it would seem impossible for any
one not to make these campaigns successful and
possibly a larger number of winners would result.
I do not mention these details as a mere comment,
but if my impression could be of any service to other
men at large and would create enthusiasm such as
I feel that I am possessed of, I am sure all of us
would benefit by these exchanges of thought."
