BY AEROPLANE SERVICE

Merchandise of Every Description.
The National Air Transport planes fly 5,000 miles,
approximately, every day, and have flown nearly
1,500,000 miles without loss of life or of cargo or even
serious injury to anyone. Business men can under-
stand that with a government bureau devoting all
its time to commercial aeronautics, that practical air
transport is not a thing of the future but that it is
here today, at the door, waiting to serve them. The
bureau in the Department of Commerce, is headed by
Assistant Secretary William P. MacCracken, Jr.
Merchandise of nearly every description is being
handled by air, by mail and express. The American
Railway Express delivers the express to the air fie!d,
and at point of destination picks up the package and
attempts to deliver every such parcel to the addressee
within a half hour after its arrival.
Instances of the use of the air transport by almost
every form or line of business, could be multiplied a
thousandfold. One example will serve to aid the
comprehension of the tremendous speed of 100 miles
an hour or better, that by air line brings near two
points separated by vast distance:
On September 7, an express shipment was for-
warded from Paris, France, to San Francisco, where
it was received on September 15, at 5 p. m., and was
delivered to the consignee by the American Railway
Express Company at 5:30 p. m., just eight days
from the time the transit began!

Bros, since the introduction of the famous Ortho-
phonic Victrola and Radiola three years ago. Len-
hard is in charge of this department and is willing to
give service faithfully to his many Mishawaka
friends. Weimer, a native Mishawakan, is rated as
one of the most experienced technical men in the
radio business in that vicinity. He has been in the
employ of the leading Atwater Kent dealers in that
territory and has now, joined Elbel Bros, to take
charge of the technical end of the work.
The Elbel Music Co., of South Bend, Ind., Names
Able Force for Branch Store.
Carl J. Lenhard, Homer Overpeck and Wm. Wei-
mer are three competent representatives of the Elbel
Music Co. of South Bend, Ind., who manage the store
in Mishawaka, Ind.
Homer C. Overpeck is in charge of the Mishawaka
sales and service department, Carl J. Lenhard has
charge of the musical instruments, and William Wei-
mer is the technician posted to care for the radio
sets in the city.
Overpeck, who has lived in Mishawaka for the
last eight years, has had four years' radio service
experience. He is in charge of the Mishawaka sales
and service for the Atwater Kent and Sparton sets.
A competent radio engineer, Overpeck was employed
by Elbel Bros, to take charge of the Mishawaka
sales and service. Lenhard, born and reared in Misha-
waka, has been connected with the music business

George W. Allen, president of the Milton Piano
Company, New York, recently "put over" a unique
tie-up for his new Tom Thumb piano, the exquisite
little upright which has met with such tremendous
success since its introduction to the trade less thin
six months ago. Mr. Allen has engaged the services
of Huston Ray, vaudeville headliner and pianist of
note, to introduce and promote ,the sa!e of Tom
Thumb pianos throughout the central and western
part of the United States. He is na accomplished
musician, and his act never fails to "stop the show."
Mr. Ray has already started on an ambitious booking,
which includes appearances in such cities as Detroit,
Toledo, Indianapolis, Spokane. Los Angeles, Kansas
City, through the entire South, followed by a tour
of Canada. The local Milton dealer in each city
where Mr. Ray eppears is closely connected with this
publicity. The Milton Company are furnishing such
dealers with advertising material which shows Mr.
Ray and his Tom Thumb piano and provides the
dealer space to "hook-up" his organization with the
popular vaudevillian.

Reports from the musical merchandise trade dis-
close the fact that the violin is experiencing a revival
in sales, with the result that dealers are giving in-
creased attention to the condition of their violin
stocks. The observant dealers are making the most
of the revival by stocking violins of varied character
to suit different tastes and price requirements.
The stimulation in violin sales is, in a measure, due
to the publicity given to the old-time fiddling contests
which have been featured all over the country by
newspapers desirous to participate in popular move-
ments conducive to an increase in their subscription
lists.
It is considered natural that the interest in the old-
time fiddling should change to a desire in the public
for violin music of a higher kind. It was an oppor-
