PIANO FACTORY^STORE SUPPLIES
FAIRBANKS PIANO PLATES
Product of Fairbanks Co. Springfield, Ohio,
Remarkable for Distinctive Qualities Appre-
ciated by Exacting Piano Manufacturers.
The fame of many pianos depends on the fine qual-
ity of the plate, the importance of which is obvious
to anybody who is familiar with piano construction.
The piano plate, from the character of its manu-
facture, early became a specialty adopted by the foun-
dry men. And like true specialists the foundry firms
adopting piano plate making as an important phase
of their activities, at once showed their understanding
of the problem of the piano builder. The plate pro-
vides the character of firmness and rigidity, without
which the task of the piano builder would be futile.
In the American piano industry the piano plates
made by the Fairbanks Company, Springfield, Ohio,
are considered a potent means towards attaining the
character of sturdiness and durability for pianos. It
is a selection prompted by distinctive qualities in the
Fairbanks plates which manufacturers believe to be
essential to the production of high-class pianos. Fair-
banks piano plates are particularly desirable because
they conform to the requirements of the exacting
piano manufacturer and are made from the finest
materials by the most skillful workmen.
It is admitted by dealers, piano makers and piano
owners of a discriminating kind that a Fairbanks plate
in a piano is a prime factor in dependable construc-
tion.
BUSINESS CONTINUES.
"There's business all the time if you can induce it
to come your way," was the text on which a promi-
nent western music dealer hung his address at the
recent Western Music Trades Association convention
in San Francisco. He argued in a bright, impromptu
manner that there is really no particular season of
MERIT IN SCHAFF STRINGS
the year in which the musical merchandise stock is
specially favored by buyers. Every day, every week,
every month may be set down as favored for musical
High Character of Materials Used and Per-
merchandise purchases, was the belief he expressed
and he cited his own experiences in support of the
sonal Element in the Processes in the
theory.

Vassar College in 1925 and received her Master of
Arts degree from Columbia University last February.
Mr. Marks, the older son of the music publisher,
attended Dartmouth, and after leaving college be-
came engaged in newspaper w r ork. For the past year
and a half he has been with his father's firm as head
of the mechanical and publicity departments. The
wedding is to take place next winter.
Arthur E. Winter, head of the Winter Music
House, Altoona, Pa., is one of the beneficiaries under
the will of the late Henry Buhl, Jr., of Pittsburgh.

Manufacturer* of
The quality of the bass strings in a piano is one of
the most important considerations for the maker,
the dealer, and the ultimate retail buyer. Pianists
know the tonal value of good bass strings in
the instruments they play. Fullness, resonance in
an instrument, power, are accomplished by the se-
lection of the bass strings by the piano maker.
A piano rated as "fine" is an instrument in the build-
ing of which the maker is satisfied with nothing but
the best in materials. And in the list of materials the
bass strings are notably important.
The Schaff Piano String Co., 2009-2021 Clybourn
avenue, Chicago, has for very many years been dis-
tinguished for the unchallenged merit of its bass
strings. Piano manufacturers know that the good
will of his trade is the keystone of his business.
Without it the whole structure of his business would
fall to pieces. He knows that fine tone may be
effected by the use of perfect strings, and the manu-
facturer who uses the Schaff strings is assured of one
of the prime secrets of tonal merit for his instru-
ments.
The Schaff bass strings are made by experts
most of whom are veterans who consider their occu-
pation among the arts. The most modern machin-
ery is used, but there is a personal element in the
making of Schaff strings that makes them distinc-
tive in the industry.
FORMS JUNIOR BAND.
A junior band, composed of boys and girls from
twelve to eighteen years of age, was organized in
Avon, 111., last week. This band is being sponsored
by the local Exchange Club through its entertain-
ment committee. Twenty-three members signed up
and there arc prospects for more members in the
near future.
