Straube Sonata Grand
with Duplex Overstrung Scale
ONE quality and tone volume are physical properties
which depend upon definite acoustical principles. The
distinctive character of grand piano tone itself rests
upon this scientific fact.

In addition to proper proportion of the sounding board, one
of the chief requirements for true grand piano tone is adequate
string length —and proper proportion of the strings. Merely
reducing the scale to fit a small case may produce a small piano,
but certainly not a grand piano.
In building a small grand piano it was the Straube ideal to pro-
duce true grand qualities. And this has been achieved! By the appli-
cation of the exclusive Straube method of duplex overstringing
we have produced in a case but four-feet four-inches long, a scale
with a string length equal to a grand piano at least a foot longer.
This exclusive Straube principle of scale drawing has now
achieved for the small grand piano the same relative improve-
ment in tone quality and volume which made such a tremen-
dous impression in the Style L Upright, introduced last year.
HE illustration above shows how the
increased string length has been at-
tained in the scale of the Straube
Sonata Model Grand Piano.
Note that the scale has been divided
into three sections, instead of the usual two.
The lowest section is strung over the other two
at an angle which permits maximum length of
string within the smaller limits of the case.
Patents are now pending on this method which was
applied first, and exclusively, by Straube in Style L,the
three-foot seven-inch upright piano which has made
such an impression on the musically discriminating.
At the right is an illustration revealing the high qual-
ity of construction of the back of the Straube Sonata
Grand. Note the laminal post construction, a pat-
ented Straube feature which is one of the outstanding
characteristics of all Straube Grands. This maintains
the rigidity of the entire instrument, preserving the
tone quality and insuring long life.
Also note the built up key bed which permanently
maintains the proper level for key and action.

OU have but to sit down before this
Sonata Grand and run through the
Jl entire scale of 88 notes to appreciate
what an opportunity this achievement opens
to you as a dealer.
All we might say about the Sonata could not
reveal as much of the "grand piano" quality
of its tone as a single hearing of its scale.
Here at last is a small grand with true grand
characteristics—not because we say it is, but
because it actually possesses the acoustical
basis of the accepted grand piano.
Beauty In Design
Although it is the smallest full scale grand
piano built, the Sonata Grand possesses a
rare beauty of design and a proportion
which makes it doubly desirable in homes
of refinement. In appearance as well as
tone it is a true grand piano. Remember
Straube builds a complete line—grands, re.
producing grands, upright pianos in stand,
ard and small sizes, and player pianos.

Situated to best advantage in the living or music
room the Sonata model requires only a few inches
more floor space than an upright. Consider what
it means when, in addition to this space-saving
size, you can offer your prospect the tonal quality
of a much larger instrument!
To the unquestioned appeal of the grand piano
as a mark of distinction in the home the Sonata
model adds the appeal of true grand musical qual- + v ,
ity, which has not been available heretofore in ^ ^^.<
