Store, Has Active Part in
Unique Event.
E. H. Aird, in charge of 'the pianoforte department
of Harrods, the well known London merchant, had a
prominent part in arranging an artistic celebration to
commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of Bee-
thoven. As Mr. Aird made a great number of friends
in America during his visit here, a few years ago,
the following, clipped from the Manchester Guardian,
is interesting:
"This enterprise at Harrods is frankly a piece of
advertising as well as a tribute to Beethoven. It is
joint advertising between the stores and the Columbia
Graphophone Company, which has prepared a series
of records for the centennary and arranged for their
being played in thousands of schools here and in
America.
"Admission to these concerts is free by ticket, and
the big room which holds a thousand people at the
