Secretary of Commerce Believes New Commission
Will Straighten Out Chaos in Broadcasting.
Secretary Hoover has announced the separation of
the radio division of his department from the bureau
of navigation, of which it has heretofore been a part.
Hereafter the radio division will be an independent
unit under the direct supervision of Secretary
Hoover. William D. Terrell, who has been chief
radio supervisor of the bureau of navigation, was
appointed chief of the new radio division.
It is the expectation of Secretary Hoover that the
new commission will speedily straighten out the chaos
now existing in the air. The commission is to have
original jurisdiction over such matters as the alloca-
tion of wave lengths and the licensing of broadcast-
ing stations. After the first year the department of
commerce will have original jurisdiction with the
commission acting as an appellate body on contro-
versial matters.
