TONK TRADE ACTIVE
A. H. Grim, Wholesale Traveler, Tells of Con-
ditions He Ran Across in His Recent
Trip of Two Weeks.
A. H. Grim, Tonk Manufacturing Company trav-
eler, who makes his headquarters in the Republic
Building, Chicago, has returned from a trip through
eastern territory. On this trip Mr. Grim sold goods
in Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and other
cities, including Toledo. And he was in Milwaukee
last week, calling on dealers there, who also gave
him orders for stools, benches and scarfs.
The piano trade has been peculiar this fall, accord-
ing to the discoveries of Mr. Grim on these trips. It
has come in all of the cities named in spurts. For
instance, in Milwaukee the first week in November,
piano trade boomed for the whole week. After
that dealers considered themselves lucky to get a
customer in the store once in a while.
In Toledo he found business was good. Toledo is
a manufacturing city, with ample payrolls, and that
accounts largely for excellent conditions. In Detroit,
in Buffalo, in Cleveland and in Pittsburgh, the condi-
tion of vacillating trade, a good week and a poorer
one, not alternating but coming irregularly, seemed to
prevail.
SHOW BAND GOODS AT SCHOOL
Prospective Girl Band Members in Martinsville, Ind.,
High School See Five Displays.
The Fuller-Ryde Music Co. of Indianapolis, on
Tuesday of last week, gave a demonstration of band
instruments at the high school, Martinsville, Ind., and
J. C. McColgin, local music dealer, had a display and
and a demonstration Thursday afternoon. It was
considered an opportune time for the parents as well
as the boys and girls to get information concerning
the different instruments.
