Lyon & Healy, Chicago, Demonstrates New Device
Which Brings Out Sounds the Phonograph Misses.
The panatrope, a new device combining the prin-
ciples of the phonograph and of the radio and in-
tended to bring from records music which the pho-
nograph misses, was demonstrated this week in Lyon
& Healy's concert hall, Chicago. The difference be-
tween the music produced by the panatrope and that
emitted by a phonograph is as great, persons who
attended the demonstration said, as that between a
little German band and a symphony orchestra.
A needle on the instrument takes the vibrations
from the record. Instead of vibrating a diaphragm

Charles M. Brabbit is manager of the Western
Wood-wind Shop, 312 Second avenue. Cedar Rapids,
la., which carries a line of Martin Handcraft band
instruments.
Anthony Abbanat, director of band and orchestra
work in the public schools of Burlington, la., plans
larger band classes this year.
The Huron, Ohio, high school orchestras are being
reorganized for the coming year. Tin's year there
will be two orchestras.
Galanti Bros., New York, makers of accordions,
have established a factory in Italy.
"We wish to announce that we have been awarded
the exclusive agency for the C. G. Conn Ltd. band
instruments in Hancock County," is printed in Find-
lay, O., newspapers this week by the B. S. Porter
Son Co., known as "The Old Reliable."
A meeting of the band committee and members of
the school board, North Manchester, Ind., was held
Wednesday night in an effort to provide instruction
for a school band and at the same time have a direc-
tor for the North Manchester band.
