Sacramento Representative of the Jesse
French Piano Co. Tells How to Put Busi-
ness on 100 Per Cent Basis.
Following is a statement of his methods from Lou
Atkins, enthusiastic representative at Sacramento,
Calif., for the Jesse French & Sons Piano Co., New
Castle, Ind. Mr. Atkins has been boosting Jesse
French pianos as his leader for a long time and has
built up a wonderful business in that city. He wants
the other piano dealers to know that the reason for
his success is that he gets good down payments, good
terms, and interest.
PIANO BUSINESS PUT ON 100% BASIS.
After reading what took place at the Eastern and
Western Music Trades conventions, I wish to an-
nounce to the world how to put the piano business
on a 100% basis.
It is a very simple proposition, and I am, and in-
tend to stand alone and carry out the following rules:
Second grade pianos at least $25 down and $10
per month, 7% interest.
Standard pianos, $50 down and $12 per month, 7%
interest.
Players, 2nd grade—$50 down and $15 per month,
7% interest.
Standard Players, 1st grade—$100 down and $20
per month, 7% interest.
These are the rules followed at Lou Atkins' store.
Reversions when sold on this basis will run from
3 to 5% only.

Great Durability of Instrument Under Trying Cir-
cumstances Told by Head of Honolulu Institution.
The Kroeger Piano Co., Stamford, Conn., received
a letter recently from the St. Louis College of Hono-
lulu praising the excellent tone and great durability
of a Kroeger piano which the college has used for
thirty years. This is an exceptional tribute to come
from a tropical climate, which, of course, is much
harder on a sensitive musical instrument than our
temperate American climate. In addition, the col-
lege is situated on a river which naturally adds to
the dampness in the atmosphere. A more severe test
could hardly be asked for to demonstrate the thor-
ough methods of construction and the climate-resist-
ing qualities of a Kroeger piano.
St. Louis College is more than satisfied with their
Kroeger, for they have added other Kroegers until
there are now four of these instruments in daily use
in this educational institution. The interesting letter
recently came from the college:
Gentlemen—Please accept my congratulations.
Your latest models are certainly artistic and 1 am
sure they appeal to everybody who has good taste.
We have four Kroeger pianos and I am glad to say
that they are as good as any other make that I
have played.
The Kroeger I have in my studio is the first of
many that were imported here. It has been in daily
use for 30 years and still has a very brilliant tone

M. SCHULZ CO. DEALERS
SEE BIG TRADE AHEAD
WINNING ADS IN AMPICO CONTEST
Visitors from Wisconsin and Mississippi Are
Optimistic and Reports Are Indicative of
the Activity of the M. Schulz Co.
The nation-wide activity of the M. Schulz Co.'s line
is exemplified in the reports of the business of dealers
in different sections of the country. Among those
who were visitors to the company's offices, at 711
Milwaukee avenue, Chicago, this week, were J.
Faber, of Oshkosh, Wis., and F. C. Cunningham, of
Hattiesburg, Miss.
Mr. Faber, who was accompanied by his wife and
daughter on the Chicago visit, has represented the
M. Schulz line in his city for more than twenty years.
The foundation of the progressive business was the
M. Schulz Co.'s line, w r hich has proved a consistent
seller, with unlimited profit making possibilities.
Mr. Cunningham, who stopped over in Chicago
with his wife this w r eek, is on a motor tour and made
it a point to visit the M. Schulz Co. headquarters.
The piano trade in Mississippi is good, with excel-
lent prospects for a much better trade than was
experienced at this time last year, was a statement
by Mr. Cunningham.
The Fitzgerald Music Company, Los Angeles,
Calif., recently instituted a contract for senior high
school pupils taking publicity and advertising courses
which attracted the attention of over five hundred
students. The contest covered three weeks, the sub-
ject of the ads the first week being the Brunswick
Radiola; the second week, the Ampico and the Knabe
piano, and the third w r eek, the De Forest Radiola.
The winning ads covering the Knabe and the
Knabe with the Ampico are printed herewith. Need-
less to say, their excellence has led to their exten-
sive use by the Fitzgerald Music Company, which is
to be commended for the ingenuity of the plan for
arousing interest in the instruments it has to offer
and in the excellent results obtained therefrom.
A BRITISH FIGHT.
A KRAKAUER TALKING POINT.
The Federation of British Music Industries is mak-
ing a fight on fraudulent piano advertising. The
activities of the federation are directed particularly
against the methods of presenting pianos of the mon-
grel kind assembled in so-called factories and com-
posed largely of cheap imported parts.
The addition of the Sustenuto Pedal Device to the
popular styles 54 and 56 of the line of Krakauer
Bros., New York, provides another strong talking
point for the dealer and salesman. "There are but
very few other upright pianos, if any, manufactured
in America with this device, and even though the
Krakauer upright has always compared favorably
with a good grand, now it can be classed as the com-
plete hand performing instrument. We believe that
if the Sustenuto device is called to the attention of
the artist, musician, or any music loving person that
it will be a most salient talking point," is a reminder
to dealers in a letter from the company to the trade.
A MILWAUKEE CAMPAIGN.
Persistence is the rule of the Wm. A. Kaun Music
.Co., Milwaukee, in its "Music in the Home" cam-
paign. The campaign is for the double purpose of
stimulating interest in music and increasing the de-
mand for pianos. Extensive newspaper advertising
is used in featuring the "Music in the Home" idea
and adds to the effectiveness of the efforts.
