U. S. ROLLS FOR JUNE
DEALER OPENS BRANCH STORE
Charles Mehr, Birmingham, Ala., in Store No, 2,
Shows Fine General Stock.
In 1918 Charles Mehr came from Philadelphia to
Birmingham, Ala., with a few dollars in his pocket
and a determination to make good in the growing
metropolis of the south. Choosing the music busi-
ness as his career, he worked as a clerk in a local
music house and gained experience to work out his
ideas, says the Birmingham Age-Herald.
Buying a little stock he started a small music store
across from The Age-Herald building. By dint of
hard labor and perseverance in the face of obstacles,
he built, step by step, and enlarged his stock as he
prospered.
This year his business had grown to such an extent
that he was compelled to seek more room or open a
new store. Having confidence in the future of the
Magic City he decided to open the new store and
grow with Birmingham.
Saturday Mr. Mehr's music store No. 2 was opened
at 404 North Twentieth street with a large stock of
records, toys, party favors, sheet music and musical
instruments, as well as a complete line of novelties.
It is a clean, new stock. Men of Mr. Mehr's type
who have grit, perseverance and thrift are the back-
bone of the business world and such men are needed
to build the south and make its foundation solid.
CLEO STRINGS SELL.
Cleo musical strings will soon be on sale in the
leading cities of Japan, according to S. Simon, Chi-
cago, manufacturer of the Cleo line of wound and
gut strings, who recently received an inquiry from
a prominent jobber of Kobe, Japan. On a recent trip
from which Mr. Simon returned last week he placed
the Cleo line with a number of progressive dealers
and booked a lot of business.
A KILN DRYING COURSE.
Men from piano plants were among the nineteen
from other wood-using industries who attended the
recent instructional course in kiln drying of lumber
at the U. S. Forest Products Laboratory at Madison,
Wis. The next course will be given in September,
enrollments for which are now being booked.
