SUPERVISORS SEE CONN LINE
School Officials Gathered in Annual Conference in
Kansas City Impressed with Big Display.
C. G. Conn, Ltd., of Elkhart. Ind., exhibited a full
line of its band instruments during the Music Super-
visors' National Conference in Kansas City recently,
and the comprehensive character of the display im-
pressed men who evince keen interest in the growth
of the school band spirit.
It was made plain by the talks of the supervisors
that encouragement of instrumental music teaching in
the curriculum of the public schools was of the prac-
tical kind, the results of which are seen in the many
well-trained bands in all parts of the country.
Fine equipment, and new modern means of instruc-
tion, characterize the bands, a condition mainly attrib-
utable to the supervisors. The new instruments in
the Conn line particularly impressed them. These in-
cluded the new saxophone, new trumpet, new French
horn and new oboe.

A lowered cost of paints and varnishes is expected
in industrial circles as a result of a petition by the
American Vegetable Oils and Fats Industries filed re-
cently with the Tariff Commission to reduce the duty
on a number of vegetable oils.
The problems of the paint and varnish industry in
the New York zone were discussed at a recent meet-
ing of the Paint, Oil and Varnish Club of New York,
held in the Hotel Biltmore and attended by most of
the prominent local manufacturers and salesmen of
this industry.

An announcement of considerable interest and im-
portance to the piano industry is that of the sales
arrangement recently made between Lyon & Healy,
of Chicago and the Capital Furniture Company,
Noblesville, Indiana, J. L. Dulin, president.
The territory given to Lyon & Healy for Capital
roll cabinets is on an exclusive basis and covers every
state west of the Mississippi and also the states of
Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.
The player roll cabinets manufactured by the Capi-
tal Furniture Manufacturing Company are known to
the trade. The entire line comprises twenty-six
models. According to J. M. Kulick, manager of the
piano accessories division of Lyon & Healy, exten-
sive sales plans are under way in the territory men-
tioned above.
NEW PHONOGRAPH DEVICE.
T. W. Small, of Cleveland, O., is the inventor of a
device for perpetual phonograph playing, according
to a United Press report. Twenty-nine records are
placed in a magazine in Small's new electric machine.
When the button is pressed the top record begins to
peal forth its harmony. Then the music stops for
one minute while the ingenious machinery winds up
the phonograph spring, removes the record and puts
