Famous Inventor Replies to Theatrical Managers
Who Demand Curb on Radio.
Moved to the defense of the radio industry, of
which he is often called the father. Dr. Lee De Forest,
inventor of the audion, which made possible the re-
ceiving and broadcasting of the human voice, replied
last week to the theatrical managers who have re-
manded a curb on radio as a detriment to their
business.
"The attacks upon radio," said Dr. De Forest, "re-
mind me of the perturbation of the professional
photographers many years ago when amateur
cameras were first introduced. They were convinced
that their profession was doomed. The result has
been, however, that people have been educated to
appreciate the art of the professional, as evidenced by
the prices they are willing to pay for portraits today.
