Quality of Music, Character of Materials and Allur-
ing Price Make Line Big Profit Producer.
The Capitol Roll & Record Co., reports a continu-
ous succession of orders for the numbers comprised
in the January bulletin of Capitol Word Rolls. The
waltzes in the late releases are sharing equal favor
with the fox-trots. The names of the recording art-
ists is a guarantee to customers of the pepful char-
acter of the rolls. Lindsay McPhail, Carl Westbank,
Paul Jones, Billy Fitch, Nell Morrison, Dave Gwin,
Erwin Schmidt, Clarence Johnson, Wayne Love, and
James Blythe form an array of pianists who put a
lively musical character into the tunes.
Apart from the musical merits of the Capitol rolls
they have other qualities that recommend them to the
player owners. For one thing they are made from
the best materials obtainable. Users appreciate rolls
that stand the wear.
In pleasing the trade the rolls naturally increase
the dealer's sales. Character, quality and price make
the Capitol rolls the dealer's best profit producer in a
roll department.
RADIO ROUT FOR ICEMAN
His Exit Is Assured by Scandinavian Inventor Pre-
paring Display for Radio Show.
Among the startling features promised for the New
Inventions Section of the Second Radio World's Fair
in New York September 14 to 19 is a complete sys-
tem for the transmission and reception of light, heat
and power by radio, now being perfected in an east-
ern laboratory. Another will be an astounding inven-
tion by a Scandinavian expert which threatens to put
the ice trusts of all nations out of business.
This remarkable contrivance, according to the in-
ventor, will broadcast refrigeration exactly the same
as our present-day radio stations broadcast musical
programs. He claims that his special receivers, which
can be installed cheaply in ordinary cooling recep-
tacles, will entirely eliminate the necessity of ice or
modern refrigerating machinery.
All the housewife of the future will have to do, if
what the inventor says is true, will be to keep her
refrigeration receiver tuned in with a central sending
station, which, in all probability, will be installed
and operated by the municipality in which she resides.
According to the inventor, households can be supplied
with radio-refrigeration of almost any intensity for
less than fifty cents per year.

"NATURELLE" AID TO SALES
Effective Reproducer Increases Dealers' Output of
Talking Machines and Records.
The "Naturelle," the new reproducer, is helping
large numbers of dealers to increase their sales of
phonographs and records. The device is distributed
by the Specialty Phonograph & Accessories Co., 210-
212 East 113th street, New York.
The interest of talking machine owners in their
machines and in the successive releases of records is
kept alive by dealers who provide attractions with
power to direct their attention to the new aids to
enjoyment. The love of the phonograph owners for
their machines is in equal ratio to the pleasure they
get from them. Good machines and good records
prolong the interest of people in the talking machine
as an aid to musical pleasures. The Naturelle is a
potent aid to stimulating interest in the talking ma-
chine department with the consequent increase in
profit-making sales.
The Naturelle kept on the demonstrating machine
in the music store has the most convincing publicity
powers. Every phonograph owner is a prospective
buyer and the demonstration of it by the salesman is
usually followed by purchase of it. Sales result in a
generous profit for the trade.

A NEW HANDCRAFT TROMBONE
Commendatory Words of Jack Brown Tell of Fine
Qualities of Martin Instruments.
From all sections of the country come words of
praise for the new Dansant Model Martin Handcraft
Trombone. New York. Chicago, San Francisco and
21
after a thorough tryout I find it the best horn I have
ever used in every respect, and, as you know, that is
saying a lot about an instrument. I have been using
an instrument of another make for about five years
and was pleased with both of them until I met a
friend of mine in Chicago, Santo Picora, who at that
time had just changed to a Martin and asked me to
look the horn over, and the result was I ordered one.
"I am here with Jimmie Joys Orchestra, and will
remain through the winter season. The boys have
all bought new instruments and every one a Martin.
"As I said above, I am more than pleased with the
instrument, and I am sure it will be a popular favorite
with all the dance trombonists."

JACK BROWN.
Canada have contributed their tribute to the new in-
strument and now comes Texas and the Southwest.
A short tinie ago Jack Brown purchased a new
Martin Handcraft Trombone through the Stapleton
Music Company, Inc., at San Antonio, Texas. After
a trial of the instrument Mr. Brown was so favorably
impressed that he wrote Fred A. Holtz, sales man-
ager of The Martin Band Instrument Company as
follows:
"The Dansant Model Trombone I bought through
Mr. Stapleton was delivered several days ago, and

THE BRUNSWICK CONTESTS
Complete Plans Now Perfected for February Events
by Chicago Company.
The music memory contest by radio of the Bruns-
wick-Balke-Collender Co., Chicago, announced in
Presto last week will be inaugurated February 3
from the Brunswick laboratories, New York City, by
arrangement with the Radio Corporation of America.
Simultaneous broadcasting will take place from
WJZ, New York City, WRC, Washington, D. C,
and WGY, Schenectady, N. Y., thus making it pos-
sible to reach an audience of several million persons.
The contest will be valuable as an encouragement
to music and incidentally a splendid means of pub-
licity for the Brunswick company.
Following the inaugural program on February 3
the second Brunswick Music Memory Contest will be
broadcast on February 10 and the third and fourth
on February 17 and February 24.
In order to still further stimulate the interest of the
general public in cultivating its ability to identify
music compositions and artists, Brunswick will be-
stow monthly cash awards totaling five thousand
dollars.
These awards will be conferred upon those who are
most successful in identifying correctly the greatest
number of compositions broadcast by Brunswick art-
ists during the four radio Music Memory Contests in
February, and the same arrangement will follow
during the successive months of these contests so
conducted.
. Provisions will be made to enable the public to
obtain in advance a complete list of the compositions
from which selections will be made, and also the
Brunswick artists and organizations eligible to par-
ticipate in these music memory contests.
Further information concerning the terms and con-
ditions of the contests will appear in detail in the
newspapers of Sunday, January 18.
OUR STATIONS HELP.
All previous Canadian sales records for radio sets
and accessories were surpassed during this year's
Christmas business, Assistant Trade Commissioner T.
W. Donnelly reports to the Department of Commerce
from Ottawa. The availability of the leading broad-
casting stations in the United States and the princi-
pal stations in Canada, affords local enthusiasts 1
