WHERE SUPPLY MEETS DEMAND.
The musical merchandise department of the Bush
& Lane Piano Co., Seattle, Wash., as a busy and
interesting place at all hours of the day since the
manager inaugurated the Holton Talent Test for
those ambitious to become saxophone players, but
who are doubtful about the extent of their natural
musical ability. "Now you can know if you can
play—determine your natural talent for this most
fascinating of all wind instruments—all before de-
ciding, and at no expense to you," is the invitation
printed in the newspapers.
The test is made by means of a phonograph record
and a saxophone and all tests are given in private
and to one person at a time. "An unsuspected gift
may lie within you, waiting only to be brought to
light. Convince yourself. The sooner you mail the
coupon the sooner you may find the path to a greater
happiness and contentment," is the encouraging in-
ducement. Needless to say the testing activities have
resulted in many saxophone sales.

The holdings are small, however, owing to liberal
exporting caused by good prices abroad.
Business in plate foundries is being stimulated by
generous orders for plates by the piano industries.
Even before election day the increased liveliness was
apparent.
Lumber production is below normal according to
the report of the Western Pine Manufacturers' As-
sociation.
According to a Department of Commerce report
for August, 1924, new and unfilled orders for piano
benches and stools in factories totalled $91,032 com-
pared to $73,024 in July.

PRAISES HANDCRAFT SAXOPHONE
C Melody Model Theme of Flattering Letter from
Prominent Music Director.
Warm praise for the C Melody Martin Handeraft
Saxophone is contained in a letter recently received
by Fred A. Holtz, sales manager of The Martin
Band Instrument Company of Elkhart, Ind., from
Albert F. Bartlett, R. A. M. Mr. Bartlett is direc-
tor of the Columbus Academy of Music, Columbus,
Ga., and was formerly a captain bandmaster in the
British army. Mr. Bartlett during his wide and
varied experience as a musician has had ample op-
portunity to study and investigate musical instru-
ments of almost every make, and for that reason his
high praise of the Martin is all the more significant.
Me writes:
' T h e C Melody Saxophone arrived safely and it is
very gratifying to me to be able to inform you that
my customer cannot find words to express his ad-
miration of the instrument. It was shown to the
most prominent saxophone artists of this city and
without exception was acclaimed to be the very best
they had ever handled or played. One in particular
who owns a saxophone of another make said there
was absolutely no comparison in the instruments.
Personally I thank you for enabling me to positively
assert that I am privileged to offer the very best
saxophone on the market."
