Because of the volume and reverberant qualities of
organ music, a special instrument has been built for
station WGN, Chicago, by Lyon & Healy, to give the
best results for broadcasting. The organ is of the
type ordinarily used in homes and can be played
either manually or by means of music rolls. Co-
operating with WGN, a special studio in the music
house's building was constructed.
The walls are
paneled in silk brocade. The floor is tesselated tan
and blue rubber tile. By building the walls and
ceilings of a recently developed insulating material
almost ideal acoustical properties have been devel-
oped. The room containing the pipes is built on the
studio, but the pipes are not visible, the sound
being admitted through a silk covered panel.
Architecturally and acoustically the room has been
so designed that not only have the many objection-
able features of most organ broadcasting been ob-
viated, but violinists and vocalists may be heard with
unusual distinctness and freedom from vibrational
troubles.
ANNOUNCING GENNETT RECORDS.
The Starr Piano Co., Richmond, Ind., has discon-
tinued the publication of the Gennett Gazette, house
organ of the Gennett record department. The little
magazine was published every month for the pur-
pose of acquainting dealers with the artists that pro-
duce the fine records and also to keep them posted on
all the current releases of Gennetts. The company
believes that the effective system of acquainting the
trade with the new releases fulfilled by the continu-
ous succession of weekly lists, will perform the work
of the Gazette and do it more promptly.

W. A. MENNIE RETURNS TO NEW YORK.
W. A. Mennie, now managing the business of the
Standard Pneumatic Action Company, has recently
returned to New York from an extended business
trip through the larger cities of the middle w r est. He
reports business conditions in that section of the
country as good, and slowly growing better. The
general consensus of opinion, Mr. Mennie found, was
that business improvement will gather greater mo-
mentum after election.
PHILIPPINE MAHOGANY.
There are 64,800 square miles of forest on the
Philippine Islands. Nearly all belong to the United
States. There is enough of this timber to cover all
Illinois with virgin growth, and then Massachusetts
besides. Of mahogany alone there is something like
one hundred and ninety billion feet.

A SHOW WINDOW STUDIO
Radio Corporation of America Explains Methods of
Broadcasting a Musical Program.
The Radio Corporation of America, New York
City, operators of Station WJZ, undertook a novel
publicity stunt, via the aerial route, last Monday
afternoon. The attractive and spacious windows of
the Aeolian Co., in Aeolian Hall, on West Forty-
second street, were divided into three sections. One
partition enclosed a studio, another showed the
broadcasting artist at the microphone, and the third
depicted a room in which the mechanical apparatus
is stored, and from where the programs are sent off
into space.
The feature selected to thrill the thousands who
congregated in the vast area near the New York
Public Library was Ben Selvin's Orchestra, which
combination performs nightly at the famous Wood-
manster Inn, on the Pelham Parkway road. Mr.
Selvin chose "Honolou," "Shanghai Shuffle," and
'"One Stolen Kiss," all published by the new publish-
ing firm, the Gene Rodemich Music Publishing Cor-
poration, of New York and St. Louis.
A radio service department has been added by the
Boggs & Buhl Department Store, Pittsburgh, Pa.
