RECEIVER FOR LYRADION
FOLLOWS COMPLAINT
Employe Forces the Radio Concern into Involuntary
Bankruptcy.
The Lyradion Manufacturing Company, of Misha-
waka, Indiana, which makes and sells phonographs
and radio receiving sets, was placed in the hands of
a receiver—the Citizens Trust and Savings Bank—
on Monday.
The appointment followed the filing of a complaint
against the company and against Melville M. Mix, its
president, by Bagster Roads Seabrook, who demands
$20,000 for alleged failure to perform certain con-
tracts entered into with him.
Mr. Mix, who is a former mayor of Mishawaka
and was at one time president of the Dodge Manu-
facturing Company there, is alleged to have trans-
ferred his $80,000 home to a corporation for the pur-
pose of defeating the claims of creditors.
The complaint charges that the company, besides
owing Mr. Seabrook $7,500 back salary, is indebted to
other persons and firms to the extent of $140,000.
TRADE HAPPENINGS
RELATED IN BRIEF
Views and Beliefs of Live Piano Merchants Are
Presented.
Win. H. Clark, 2135 North California avenue, Chi-
cago, is featuring a fine line of pianos, among them
being the Steger and the Straube Artronome players.
Fenton Music Co., 1525 East 53rd street, Chicago,
reports a big sale of Reproducing Grands. Another
good seller is the Kranich & Bach Midgette Grand.
Gilbert & Harmer, 6837 South Halsted street, Chi-
cago, is featuring the line of Brinkerhoff pianos,
which are reported big sellers. This house carries
only one line of pianos.
The Columbia Music Shop, Lewisburg, Ohio, which
has been closed for alterations, has been reopened for
business.
The Robert L. White Music Co., 45 The Arcade,
NEW YORK
433 Fifth Ave.
Cleveland, Ohio, has taken a ninety-nine year lease
on premises 70 by 124 feet on the south side of Pros-
pect avenue, just east of Thirtieth street.
A. T. and A. P. Barnes are the proprietors of
Barnes Music Store, which recently opened for busi-
ness in attractive quarters on South Garnett street,
Henderson, N. C.
The J. B. Leonard Piano Co., with headquarters in
Kinston, N. C , recently opened warerooms in the
Sir Walter Hotel Building, Raleigh, N. C.
BUSY IN MUSIC DEPARTMENT.
Business is reported lively in the music department
of the Barnhart Book & Piano Store, Huntington,
Ind., which was installed last month in a store on
Jefferson street, with W. H. Barnhart in charge. The
Barnhart store, on Market street, has been in opera-
tion for more than seventeen years and has outgrown
its present location. It is still maintained for the
book business, with Allen Barnhart managing it, and
will be run independently of the new store, which will
handle music goods exclusively.
FEATURING GRANDS IN WINDOWS.
Examples of the effectiveness of simplicity of dis-
play in showing grand pianos in the windows is fre-
quently given in the Twelfth street window of Rams-
dell & Son, Philadelphia. In one last week the ex-
clusive points of superiority of a grand piano display
were emphasized by thin streamers of many-colored
ribbons running from the various parts to a descrip-
tive placard. The background was a harmonizing
color scheme.
EIGHT MAKES IN GRAND SALON.
Eight standard makes of grand pianos are carried
by the Yahrling-Raynor Music Co., Youngstown, O.,
and they are shown in what are said to be among the
most attractive grand piano salons in eastern Ohio.
These were formally opened in full in the building
occupied by the company.
The G. F. Johnson Piano Co., Portland, Ore., took
advantage recently of the appearance of Germain
Schnitzer, pianist, whom the house presented at a
concert at the Municipal Auditorium February 29.

WANT FACTORY JOBS
FOR MAIMED VETERANS
Chamber of Commerce of the United States Asks
Co-operation of Trades and Industries.
An appeal to business organizations to assist in
absorbing into industry the three or four thousand
disabled war veterans who are completing govern-
ment training courses monthly was made this week by
the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. The
National Chamber calls attention to the obligation
which rests on the business interests of the country
to co-operate with he governmen to the end that
all of the men be given employment.
"The men who are being trained," says the Na-
tional Chamber, "are trained in many lines and are
prepared to meet adequately the physical and mental
demands that their new occupations will place upon
them. The government can only rehabilitate and
train the men up to the point of employability. From
this point the employing interests of the country
must carry on." Besides men in the professions and
commercial lines, 42,714 men were being trained in
the trades and industries.
The majority of these men have been in training
for more than two years. More than 10,000 men
have been in training for three years.
Most of the report that have come to the central
office of the Veterans' Bureau in Washington from
the employers of the country who have had these
men in their employ give favorable reactions as to
the satisfactory services of the rehabilitated men.
More than 30,000 of the men have been rehabili-
tated and have gone into employment within the last
two years. Statistical studies made on some 20,000
show that they are earning more in their new voca-
tions than they earned before the war and before
they received their disabilities or handicaps from
service in the army.
