OFFER SOUND INVESTMENT
Superior Foundry, of Cleveland, Issue of $700,000 in
Mortgage Securities, Is Commended.
The Chicago Tribune's "Financial Guide" column
of this week, Thursday, had the following item of in-
terest to the piano industry and all investors:
"The Superior Foundry Company, Cleveland, O.,
is a. large manufacturer of gray iron and semi-steel
castings. It has been successfully in business since
1901. It recently issued $700,000 first mortgage 7 per
cent bonds secured by a closed first mortgage on all
fixed properties now owned or hereafter acquired.
"These properties are appraised at a sound depre-
ciated value of $1,938,758, or over 2^4 times this bond
issue. As of September 30, 1923, after giving effect
to this financing, net tangible assets amounted to
$2,500,974, or $3,572 for each $1,000 bond of this
issue. Net earnings, after depreciation but before fed-
eral taxes, for the seven years and nine months ended
September 30, 1923, averaged $193,200 per annum, or

This week there were several important trade
visitors in Chicago and all had good reports to make
as to trade conditions in their respective territories.
Among the callers were Will A. Wood, west coast
representative of the Price & Teeple Co., who said
the piano trade in the west was excellent. P. A.
Lehman, of the Lehman Piano Co., St. Louis, Mo.,
who also reported a fine business in the Mound City.
Mr. Lehman said that last month was the biggest
December he had experienced in the history of his
business.
A. T. Rapp and George L. Lennox, of the Rapp
& Lennox Piano Co., Indianapolis, Ind., were also
Price & Teeple visitors. Both gentlemen were
elated over their good business.

The Strassner-Custer Music Co., Canton, Ohio, a
new retail music house, was opened for business re-
cently at 209 Cleveland avenue. The store handles
everything in the musical line. At the head of the
concern are W. E. Strassner, a lifelong resident of
Canton, who has been an instructor in music in the
public schools there for many years and who con-
ducted a school for vocal instruction at the location
of the new store. Associated with him is W. F.
Custer, who also is a native of Canton but who has
not had previous experience in musical instrument
merchandising.
E. H. STORY IN CHICAGO.
E. H. Story, Pasadena, Calif., president of the Story
& Clark Piano Company, is in Chicago this week.
Mr. Story has become so accustomed to the trip from
sunny California to this winter's zero headquarters
that he seems like a commuter. He will look after
some special affairs in the old house on Wabash
avenue this trip, though he has given at no schedule
of his intentions this trip.

department with the co-operation of the Los Angeles
Chamber of Commerce, which organized such a de-
partment a few months ago. The department has
