AT LAST THE PIANO TAKES
ITS PLACE IN SPORT CIRCLES
H. L. Shearer, Now at Indianapolis, Puts on a Con-
test to the Finish.
Having played a Clarendon piano with mechanical
precision for thirty-seven hours seven minutes and
fifteen seconds, B. G. Burt, of Jamestown, N. Y., fell
over on the keys exhausted, and brought to an end
what the Indianapolis Star calls "the season's premier
sporting event in musical circles." The event, which
was staged in the show window of the Robertson
Music House, Inc., 235 North Pennsylvania street, in
the Hoosier city.
Hal P. Shearer, who is known in many sections in
connection with the piano trade, is vice-president of
the Robertson Music House, Inc. He estimated more
than 50,000 persons paused at the windows or en-
tered the store to see Burt play since the contest
started. Mr. Shearer said that the contest conducted
had stimulated several amateur piano playing con-
tests over the city, some of which lasted for hours.

And so, at last, we may expect to find music and
the piano figuring largely in sporting circles, with the
big newspapers featuring the contests on the sport
pages. We'd like to have an endurance test between
Burt and the Ampico.
VIRGINIA FIRM MOVES
TO LARGER QUARTERS
The Ramos Temple of Music Now Provided with
Facilities for Further Expansion.
The Ramos Temple of Music, Richmond, Va., re-
cently moved to larger quarters at 212 West Broad
street. It realizes the ambition of Manly B. Ramos,
owner of the business to locate his business in a place
where expansion will not be cramped for many a
year.
Mr. Ramos is a veteran in the music business and
widely known throughout a wide section of the state.
The Ramos Temple of Music is known as a reliable
place to buy anything in the music goods line. The
house carries a general stock of music goods. In
announcing the change of address the firm printed this
in the daily newspapers:
"My customers' loyalty has proved the financial
foundation on which I have built a big business and
provided an immense stock of music goods (from
jewsharps to church organs) in a much larger store
and building."

The Smith Piano Co. moved last week from 168
West Seventh street to Eighth and Main streets, Cin-
cinnati.
The Rourk Music Co., 610 Fifth street, Denver,
dealer in musical instruments, has moved to larger
quarters at 424 Fourteenth street.
A ninety-nine year lease, renewable for a longer
time, has been signed, transferring the Ampico
Studio, 415 East Broad street, Columbus, to William
Thompson of the Thompson-McClure Co. The prop-
erty was sold recently to Arthur L. Evans, president
of the Commercial Paste Co., but Mr. Evans' rights
were taken over by Mr. Thompson. Otto B. and
Wert C. Heaton are the lessors.
Bishop & Eoff are the owners of the Crescent City
Music Co., which was opened recently at Crescent
City, Fla.
The Decatur Music Shop, L. H. Nifong and R. W.
Garecht, has succeeded the Bruce Co. at 118 East
William street, Decatur, 111.
The Mintz Piano Co., with retail stores at 1317
Euclid avenue, 3222 Lorain avenue and 10613 Supe-
rior avenue, Cleveland, will vacate the Superior ave-
nue store.
Walter M. Brownlee has resigned as president of
the Cable Piano Co., Atlanta, to become managing
director of the Coca-Cola Co., Ltd., of Canada.

Colonel Brinkerhoff, widely known in the trade, is
m the cast, visiting several prominent cities before
returning to Chicago next week. The first stop of
his itinerary was New York City.
Henry Gerard, purchasing agent of the Sonora
Phonograph Co., has transferred his office from New
York to the factory of the company at Saginaw,
Mich. In the new location Mr. Gerard will combine
the duties of director of traffic with his older ones.
