RUBBER PRICES DECLINE.
There was a sharp decline in prices of crude rubber
last week, while the demand was small. Reports
from London and plantation centers state that sur-
plus stocks are gradually being reduced and that
there is still an abundance of rubber available. Ribbed
smoked sheets and first latex spot were offered at 26
cents, brown crepe thin clean at 25 cents, amber No.
1 at 25y 2 cents and fine up river at 24^2 cents.

The Q R S Music Co., Chicago, this week mailed
a card to the trade notifying increased telephone
facilities. This is said:
"Please note change in Q R S phone numbers. We
increased the number of trunk lines in order to give
you better telephone service. We had to change the
phone numbers.
"On October 16th the Q R S call will be any one
of the following five numbers: HARrison 9112, 9113,
9114, 9115, 9116."
FOR FOREST CONSERVATION.
Problems regarded as of great importance to the
nation as a whole, and to the South in particular, are
to be considered at the Forestry, Reclamation and
Home-Making Conference to be held November 19-
22, New Orleans, under the auspices of the Southern
Pine Association, the Mississippi and Florida Devel-
opment Boards and the New Orleans Association of
Commerce. The announced objects and purposes of
the Conference include the adoption of ways and
means for proper utilization of the idle lands of the
country, especially in the South, and to remove land
settlement from the realm of speculation and ex-
ploitation.
