the manager of a sheet music counter in a big Chi-
cago music store this week. The favor for the
waltzes, too, has been expressed in the programs of
the theater and movie house orchestras, which gener-
ally reflect the current musical tastes of the people.
But the evidence does not seem to have any effect
on the music publishers, who seem to be influenced
by the momentum of the fox-trot craze days. They
seem to be working automatically to keep up the
flood of fox-trots. The music roll and talking ma-
chine .record makers seem equally indifferent to the
popular craving for more waltzes.
Fox-trots and
blues predominate and the tuneful waltz is hardly
visible with the naked eye in the long monthly
bulletins.
OPENS SHEET MUSIC STORE.
Douglas M. Grant is the proprietor and manager
of the Inglewood Music & Gift Shop, Inglewood,
Cal., which specializes in sheet music and phono-
graphs. Mr. Grant, who is a young man of a wide
acquaintance in the town, is enthusiastic about his
business and to such a degree his neighbors foresee
quick growth for the new store. "Inglewood needs
a good sheet music counter," said Mr. Grant. "I
clearly saw this need when I was looking over the
field previous to entering some sort of business in
Inglewood. Music and art are the two things that I
am the most interested in and I have had previous
experience in conducting such a business."
BANK NOTES FOR MUSICAL NOTES.
In Paul Specht's recent suit against the Recreation
Centre Corp., of Baltimore, in which the noted orches-
tra leader secured damages for musical services ren-
dered, Superior Court Judge Gorter turned to Specht
and said, "I see. You claim that the defendant failed
to give you bank notes for musical notes!" And the
entire court roared at the fine, hoary-whiskered old
joke.
