A Steinway concert grand piano, swathed in felt-
lined canvas, arrived in Davenport, la., January 11, by
express over the Rock Island lines, to be used by
Alfred Cortot, eminent French pianist, when he ap-
peared in concert Monday night, January 15, at
Augustaua gymnasium in recital under the auspices
of the Arthur P. Griggs Piano company.
Long before the hour scheduled for Mr. Cortot's
recital, a special man from the factory of Steinway
& Sons, New York, arrived in Davenport and super-
intended the setting up of the instrument, which is
insured for $5,000, at Augustana gymnasium, and ad-
ministered the final touches of tuning to make it
worthy of the hands of the great pianist.
