MUSIC DEALERS' COOPERATION
IS FULLY APPRECIATED
Organization Returns Thanks to Fitzgerald Music
Company in Los Angeles, California.
If there is any doubt that the efforts of music
dealers to co-operate with musical events of their
cities are not wholly appreciated and excellent propa-
ganda, the following letters ought to destroy them
immediately. The Fitzgerald Music Company, of
Los Angeles, California, makes a point of joining in
the current musical activities of the community, and
of giving whatever help is in its power. The fur-
nishing of a Knabe brought back this letter:
The piano that was used on the stage with the
presentation of "The Holy City" . . . added
greatly to the success of the rendition. We wish to
thank you for that kindness and also to mention that
the note of appreciation was printed on the Church
programs. Special mention was made also at the
service.
Two days later, in acknowledgment of a similar
service to the Professional Women's Club of Los
Angeles, this testimonial arrived:
At the regular meeting of the Professional
Women's Club, at the Mary Louise Tea Rooms, on
the evening of November 13th, the members unani-
mously expressed a desire to extend to the Fitzger-
ald .Music Company their hearty thanks for the cour-
tesy extended them by your company.
The members not only appreciated the favor, but
thoroughly enjoyed the concert numbers on the
Knabe Ampico, as well as the marvelous accompani-
ments played for Madam Balfour. It was indeed a
delightful evening, for which we thank you all.

COMPANIES
COMPETITORS! SHOULD BE
THE BEST OF FRIENDS
Head of Large Industry Addresses Contempo-
raries on the Broad Spirit of Service Which
Results in Success.
In the old days of the piano trade it was not un-
common to find neighbor dealers "at swords points."
They were not merely competitors, but bitter ene-
mies. The success of one was the cause of rage to
another. Competition with them meant warfare, and
in their determination to spoil the other sales, prices
were slashed until, often, the seller even lost money
by doing business.
This has largely been changed. The local piano
dealers are no longer enemies, but often the warmest
of friends. By co-operation they get along better
and faster. A big man in industry recently touched
upon this matter in language which should be use-
ful. B. C. Hardy, of the Olds Motor Works, as
an invited guest at a banquet of other automotive
heads, spoke in part as follows:
" 'Competition' is likely to be much keener in the
smaller, concentrated communities, where a man's
next door neighbor may be in the same business as
he is, and under his close observation. It is the big
men who see past their immediate competitors to the
good of an industry as a whole. They have learned
that a competitor is no longer necessarily an enemy.
On the contrary, he may be, and very often is, a
good and valued friend.
"The broad spirit of service to the industry as a
whole prompts the interchange of ideas among the
manufacturers, and any manifestation of this spirit is
very much to be desired. Leaders in the field are
coming more and more to see that in the last analy-
sis, ability to serve is measured by equipment. Dis-
cussion of the right kind breeds action—and results
in benefit to the consumer of the products of the in-
dustry that is broad-minded enough to take every
opportunity to increase its story of accurate knowl-
edge."
