DEMAND FOR AMERICAN
HARDWOOD ABROAD
Market for Mahogany and Oak Is Large in the
United Kingdom.
Jacob Doll & Sons, Inc.
Mahogany has been increasingly popular in Great
Britain for some time and considerable business has
been done in mahogany planks from the United
States. These mahogany planks are sawn from ma-
hogany logs imported into the United States from
Central America. Due to the import duty of 10 per
cent recently levied on mahogany logs in the United
States, it is reported that the price of sawn goods has
advanced to the British importer and there is talk
of importing the logs and sawing them in the. United
Kingdom.

NEW YORK
STR1CH & ZEIDLER, Inc.
The remaining American hardwoods have shown
no particular changes. One small parcel of walnut
logs was imported and there is a moderate demand
for walnut planks 1 inch and thicker. There has been
a little inquiry for ash logs for forward delivery,
but no importations and stocks are light. The stocks
of ash lumber are rather large, the arrivals have been
light, and the demand small. No hickory logs have
been imported, but a fair amount of the old stock
has changed hands and there is a small demand,
particularly for fresh cut wood, as much of the old
stock is war stock and has been sorted over for
some time.

PIONEER SCHOOL FO: PIANO MEN
Abbey's Music House, Adrian, Mich., recognizes
the importance of providing for the musical desires
of the young. The company believes that the latent
idea to play some form of instrument, present in
every human being, must be converted into action by
the musical merchandise dealer. The firm also be-
lieves that the best time for converting the latent idea
into sales action is when the human is young. The
manager of the small goods department in the Adrian
store knows that at one time or another from child-
hood to boyhood Billy and Johnny and Joe and Jim
possesses the craving ambition to play a big, or the
biggest, brass instrument in the band, or to stand
right out in front on the stage and play a solo on the
fiddle. A good deal of the musical merchandise ad-
vertising of the house is directed at the young people.
