THE STRADIVARAS
The name of one of the famous old violin
makers seems to have been adopted by two
phonograph industries located widely apart.
At Coshocton, Ohio, the Cpmpton-Price Com-
pany long ago announced their Stradivara
phonograph. At Portland, Oregon, there is
also an industry which bears the same name.
Two weeks ago Presto referred to a news
item in which an eastern corporation had
adopted the name of "Puritan." Being cau-
tious to say that perhaps the newer company
was a selling agency of the United Phono-
graphs Corporation, of Sheboygan, Wis.,
makers of the "Puritan," this paper called at-
tention to the frequent duplication of good
talking machine names. Last week this paper
published an explanatory letter from the She-
boygan industry affirming the intimation that
the new Boston company was affiliated with
the Sheboygan industry. But there is no such
association between the phonograph industries
at Coshocton and Portland, respectively.
This paper has within a week been applied
to for the address of the Stradivara phono-
graph. Of course it was necessary to say
that there seem to be two of them. And,
judging from reports from Presto's corre-
spondent at Portland, Oregon, the "Stradi-
vara" of that city is aggressive and progres-
sive. The Coshocton "Stradivara'' has equally
displayed ambition and is proud of its prod-
ucts.
How does such a confusion of identities af-
fect the two talking machines? How will the

never yet been settled as to precisely what

name. It should be simpler when the name of
