STUDY TAX SALES.
The tax experts are giving very close study to
the sales tax which is reported to have been operat-
ing with such signal success in Canada. A new law
containing a general sales tax provision could hardly
be retroactive. The Treasury experts profess to be-
lieve that the industrial slump will not so reduce
tax returns as to render revenue under the ex-
isting law insufficient. The movement to have Con-
gress enact emergency legislation for the relief of
companies which have suffered heavy inventory
losses is gaining force.
