Department of the Trade.
Since the initiative of Paul B. Klugh, who first pro-
posed the amalgamation of the various music trades
associations into the Music Industries Chamber of
Commerce, all of the branches of business devoted
to the affairs of music have been organized into the
divisions of the trade. Following is the list of mem-
bers of the National Association of Sheet Music
Dealers, of which S. Ernest Philpitt is president:

OPENS TEMPLE OF MUSIC.
i'he new Temple of Music, recently opened in
New Brunswick, N. J., by Ramon Montalvo, pro-
vides every aid to pleasant shopping. It houses the
largest talking machine business in that section of
the country. In addition to booths show rooms and
service counters, the Temple of Music has a ca-
pacious recital hall. The building is entirely de-
voted to the cause of music.
OPENS MUSIC STORE.
A complete line of popular and classical music is
carried by Miss Lillian Moser in her new store re-
cently opened at 106 Third avenue. Cedar Rapids, la.
The building in which her former store was located
was destroyed by fire early in April. Miss Moser,
who is a clever musician, is organist of the First
Christian Church and also conducts one of the most
prominent orchestras in the city.
NEW SONGS FROM OREGON.
A song called "Louisiana" published by Wallace
& Freed of Seattle is very popular on the coast and
is one of the songs at Oregon Eilcrs being fea-
tured. Other popular songs there are "Whistle a
Song," "Kismet" and "When He Gave Me You,
Mother Mine. 1 '
PUBLISHING HOUSE INCORPORATES.
S. and C. Enkelwitz and L. E. Jacobs are incorpo-
rators of the Jack Darrell Music Publishing Co.,
New York. A capital stock of $10.00 is given by
the company, which is located at 869 East 156th
street.
COPYRIGHT IN PERU.
The Peruvian Minister of Finance has announced
the ratification by Peru of the copyright convention
signed in Buenos Aires in 1910, which extends copy-
right privileges to the signatory nations.
Consolidated Music Corporation and Several Ohter
Publishers Enjoined by Government.
A government suit was brought in the Federal
court, New York, on Tuesday of this week, to enjoin
the Consolidated Music Corporation and several
other companies from fixing prices and making
agreements intended to stifle competition in player-
piano rolls. A "trust" in popular song- copyrights is
charged, as the means by which prices were to be
controlled.
Among the defendants are Irving Berlin, Inc.;
Leo Feist, Inc.; T. B. Harms, Francis Day, Hunter,
Inc.; Shapiro, Bernstein & Co.; Watterson, Berlin &
Snyder, Inc.; M. Witmark & Sons, Inc.; and all
officers and general managers of these firms.
PHILADELPHIA CLAIMS IT.
A New York fireman has had credit for inventing
the automatic phonograph alarm signal. Now
comes a Philadelphian who has produced a "talk-
ing clock." It is the work of Joseph Pinto. The
clock can strike the hours, but turning a handle
causes it to speak them. A phonographic attach-
ment makes this possible. At 6 a. m. it calls, "Time
to get up; it's 6 o'clock," and at 11 p. m. a stern
voice announces, "Time to go home, young man;
it's 11 o'clock," and messages can be delivered at any
hour of the day.
GOOD TEN DAYS' SALE.
The World Publishing Co., of 423 Poydras street,
New Orleans, La., makes public a note from one of
the big Woolworth stores which reads thus: "We find
that during your 10 days of demonstration of 'Why
Do You Leave Me, Sweetheart' and 'There's Some-
thing 1 Like About You' we have sold about 1,050
copies, which we consider very good." We should
say that more than a thousand copies in ten days in-
dicates songs with "go" in them. A hundred copies
a day of any song is a big showing anywhere.
BOND MUSIC SHOP.
The Bond Music Shop, recently opened by the
firm of Carrie Jacob Bond & Son, at Highland ave-
nue and Hollywood boulevard, Los Angeles, Calif.,
is now recognized as the headquarters of the com-
pany. There are branches in Chicago, Toronto,
Can., and London, Eng. From a tiny shop in an
apartment the Bond Music Shop has become one of
the important sheet music publishing houses in the
country.
