GETTING ACQUAINTED.
Announcement that the American Bankers' Asso-
ciation is forming a public relations committee, for
the purpose of promoting a closer relationship be-
tween the banker and his customer, was made by
Richard S. Hawes, president of the association, this
week at the weekly luncheon of the Chicago Asso-
ciation of Commerce in the Hotel La Salle. "We
want closer personal contact with our customers—
a good, friendly understanding," Mr. Hawes said.
"Too much distrust exists and too much ill-founded
criticism is thrown at the bankers." Mr. Hawes
asserted the excess profits tax is a contributing
factor to the high cost of living and is a detriment
to our economic system.
The property at 122 East Long street, Columbus,
Ohio, has been leased to M. Hauser and E. Ballah,
who will operate a piano and talking machine store.
The gentlemen are experienced in piano selling and
will carry a good line of instruments, though what
it will be has not yet been fully decided.

HADDORFF CAPTURES CHICAGO.
Grosvenor, Lapham & Co., the Fine Arts piano
dealers, on Michigan Boulevard, Chicago, are doing
a good business in the high-grade Haddorff pianos.
It is always a hazardous experiment to change the
line of a well-established house in a large city. But
when quality supplants quality, and the advertising
of the older instruments has been characteristic of
their merits, it is possible to make the change with-
out much risk. And in taking on the Haddorff the
Fine Arts dealers have found their trade ready to
consider and buy the instruments from Rockford
with every confidence. Already the Haddorff has
captured Chicago and is one of the instruments
steadilv called for.
