n this, the 15th anniversary of Play
Meter magazine, I wou ld like to take
the opportuni ty to thank our many loyal
s ubscribers . After all , without you- the
reader-there would s imply be no Play
Meter magazine.
Our last IS years have been much like that
o f the coin-op industry itself: topsy-turvy,
filled with peaks and valleys. We burst on
to the scene in 1974, eager to fill a void that
had previously existed , i.e. , a publication
geared toward the operator to help him sur-
vive in this rewarding but highly compe-
titive business. And , thankfully , you were
receptive to what we were trying to do ,
making Play Meter the industry periodical
by which others wou ld later be iudged.
I' ll admit , there was a period al>otTI five
years ago when th ings appeared pretty bleak
for the magazine. Many, I'm sure, didn 't
expect us to survive. However, through
dedication and hard work, we not only sur-
vived but prospered to the point where to-
day, we can again claim our spot at the top.
As the years have passed, Play Meter has
kept its focus on the needs of the operator.
One way has been through the spring trade
show , ACME (formerly AOE) , which the
magazine co-sponsors. Throughout, of
course , we' ve kept abreast of the industry 's
other two vital components: the manufac-
turer and the distributor. We realize that
when something affects one segment of the
industry , the repercussions can usually be
felt throughout. For the industry as a whole
to remain healthy and vibrant , those who
comprise the three " layers" must each be
well. Play Meter is committed to doing our
part to ensure this continued prosperity.
In closing, let me again thank all of
you-and there are indeed many- who have
supported Play Meter during the past IS
years. We don 't know what the future holds
for our industry , but whatever it is, Play
Meter will be there to repo rt it. 0
