MUSIC PROGRAMMING
Back from Peru
It seems like a lifetime since I've
graced the pages of PLAY METER
with my musical mastications. But it's
certainly good to be back. Actually,
my absence was due, in part, to my
fetish for Peruvian women . I've spent
the best part of the past ten months
wallowing in the sunshine of my
backyard reading National Geo-
graphic searching for the Peruvian of
my dreams .
A lot of music has come and gone ,
but there's still enough to talk about,
so let's do .
Love Comes to Everyone-George
Harrison-Dark Horse DRC 8844
Here's a hot one for you . This is
one of those album cuts which is
squeezed from the lp onto a single by
us mischievous programmers in the
radio biz. It's from the George
Harrison album of the same title.
(kinda
catchy,
huh?)
"Love
Comes ... " is probably THE most
singable of cuts from George's latest
effort which is certain to rank as one
of his best. The guitar is biting, but
not too hard . And George sings very
well with himself. Eric Clapton plays
the guitar intro . It's definitely the
logical choice to follow "Blow Away"
and it's rated 8 out of 10.
Let's Lovedance Tonight-Gary's
Gang-Columbia 3-10970
From the group that introduced
the trombone to disco, it's another
infectious , toe-tappin' , vibes lover's
with clean, crisp vocals. The back-
ground harmonies have been sup-
plied by Michael McDonald of the
Doobie Bros, definitely a hot 1979
commodity. This one will definitely
get a lot of Album Radio airplay and
should go over well in your more
"hip" or sophisticated establish-
ments. Score it 7 out of a possible
10.
delight. If you've heard the album
("Keep on Dancin' "), you'll notice
that all the songs share certain
similarities: beat, acoustic guitars,
sax, trombone, synthesizer and
vocals. But still, the album is
refreshing. This group will be around
for a long while, churning out
danceable ditties to please the club
crowd. Plus, it's just "commercial"
sounding enough to make it on the
air and rate a 7 out of 10 on my
musical scale.
Boogie Wonderland-Earth, Wind
& Fire/The Emotions-ARC 3-
10956
Talk about setting your basic
dance floor on fire! This record is so
hot I'm always afraid it's going to melt
all over my turntable. The combina-
tion of artists is a natural and EW&F's
Mo White knows how to construct a
hit record . The scintillating horns and
rhythm section of the greatest rhythm
and blues ensemble assembled (my
own opinion), coupled with the
sweet sounding vocals of The
Emotions spell H-I-T! This record
should be so much of a quick starter,
it may be # 1 by the time you finish
reading this review of it. All of which
adds up to 10 outta 10 outta SIGHT!
I'm The One Who'll Be By Your
Side-Gary Wright-Warner Bros .
WBS 8809
Gary Wright has finally released
something to remind us of when he
was a chart topper a few years back.
It's a rock n' roll poly-moog love song

Good, Good Feelin'-War-MCA
MCA 40995
All the pieces have fallen back into
place; it's the original War back again
(including Lee Oskar) with a new one
that gives you just that, a GOOD
feelin' . War is definitely after the
dance/ disco crowd this time out. I
hope you'll understand when I say it
has a New Orleans air about it. It's a
Ia The Meters with a bit more
percussion, a staple of any War
recording. Should do very well R&B
and may crossover. Gets a 6 out of
10.
Shine a Little Love- Electric Light
Orchestra-Jet ZS8 5057
It seems like such a long one since
ELO's "Out of the Blue" lp was first
released . That album produced no
less than four hit singles. The shock
waves are still being felt and it's the
perfect time for a sneak preview of a
soon-to-be-released album entitled
"Discovery ." Now I know if you look
at that title long enough, you'll see
the word Disco staring at you! This
single is NOT Disco, and I doubt if
any of the other cuts will turn out to
