Once again , here's a Gamble and
Huff composition. That in itself
usually constitutes a winner . And win
it will , especially with the ladies . This
record is just dripping with sex .
Teddy melts all the ladies in his own
inimitable style in this gusher . You
can pretty well tell by the title that it's
gonna be a scorcher , and it is . Teddy
invites you to take a shower ... with
him -to save water no doubt .
( ... "You wash my body and I'll wash
yours .") Positively a ballad , nothing
less , and one which makes his hit
from a few years ago , "Close the
Door ," seem like something from
Captain Kangaroo . So turn out the
lights, light a candle , put this record
on the box , and watch what happens
when someone is alone with his
favorite person . 9 out of 10 , or even
better.
CRUEL TO BE KIND - Nick Lowe -

Nick Lowe has been a strange
sort . He's done "Pure Pop for Now
People ," and recorded with Elvis
Costello , Ian Dury (a story in
himself) , and Dave Edmunds . What
usually results is good rock n' roll , to
no avail. Well , his blokes are still
around , but Nick now seems to have
direction . The music is the same
good time rock with great vocals and
sharp harmonies , and now there's
that touch of commercialism which is
so necessary to get a record started
on it's way to hitdom. This has an
excellent chance to travel that road
for Mr. Lowe . I'll give it a 7 out of 10,
which ain 't bad for someone who
hasn 't even felt what it's like to be
"Bubblin' Under."

The group's name is a mouthful
and the record is an earful. It's , of
course, disco , but with a bonus . The
melody is a Ia Silver Convention,
and the lyrics are all about the strains
of the work week and looking
forward to the weekend . The closer
one gets to Friday night the louder
"That Sound" becomes . The chorus
is excellently done and is the true
hook in this one which is replete with
what I call Giorgio Moroder synthe-
sizer (you know , baing , baing , baing ,
baing) . Good tune on this 45 RPM
mix , but the 12 -i nch extended
version is much better. Give it a 10
out of 10 disco .
