That fact is affecting jukebox music

EDITOR'S NOTE: Record listings in Play Meter's Top 100 reflect those selections that in recent weeks
have proven to be consistent jukebox favorites and continue to turn popularity meters 'round and 'round. We
feel it is important to know what is actually being played. People who actually purchase records are not
necessarily those same people who play them on coin-operated phonographs. Play Meter will concentrate its
efforts on determining current jukebox hits and potential hits. In this way we can perhaps better fulfill your
programming needs.

Cl ifford G. Jones, of Jones Music
Co . in Long Beach , Calif ., agreed . "We
change from 15 to 18 records on our
boxes each week," Jones said, "and we
f ill in with alot of old favorites. We
keep re·circulating those old records
constantly, and it's a big help in
keeping appealing old ies at various
locations.
"The old standards are doing really
well," Jones added . "In fact, they're
doing better in some cases than the
top hit tunes coming out today ."
"Adult selections (oldies) are not in
nearly the demand as early '50's rock-
and ·roll here," said Phil Tullisano of
General Amusement Co. in Bloom-
field, Conn.
He said Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley
and other early rock artists make up
the bulk of his old ies demand .
But other operators in other areas
of the country indicated that the type
music their locations are asking for

groups.
Of course, Glenn Miller-type big
band sound is a hot item in many
locations, especially those catering to
middle·aged customers. But one oper-
ator indicated that one of his custo-
mers has only about four big band
selections available, and his early -to
mid ·20's customers play them fre-
quently - so often , in fact, that he has
requested a few more similar selec-
tions.
