specially fitted truck with a grand
piano and was caught by a crowd of
more than 12,000 people coming from
a baseball game at Parque Sixto Esco-
bar. Santa Claus played, of course, the
grand piano in the truck which was
also equipped with a loudspeaker and
microphones for music and announce-
ments. On Tuesday and Wednesday of
that same week, Santa Claus went to
the interior of the island visiting the
towns of Rio Piedras, Caguas, Gurabo.
Juntos, Las Piedras and Humacao. As
a result of this trip, the Social Circle
of Humacao presented the Humacao
piano teacher connected with the Nin
organization, Mrs. Gloria Carr, in a
piano-Organo recital.
On Sunday, December 23rd, there
was a special Xmas concert and broad-
cast at the Nin Auditorium from 11 to

forces opposing this exemption are un-
tiring in their efforts. Increasing the
minimum wage is likewise of continued
interest to the Utopians to enhance the
lot of the non-productive, the economic
implications notwithstanding.
Act When Called Upon
The NAMM, together with other re-
tail associations, will be in the middle
of the fight over controls, taxes and
Fair Labor Standards. We will be fight-
ing in the interests of all retailing in
general, and the music dealer in par-
ticular. Members will surely receive
several summonses in the year ahead to
make their individual positions known
to their Congressmen. Don't fail to act
immediately and positively in response
to these calls. The best interests of our
business will depend upon the action of
each of us. This action is best typified
by the advice of Senator Karl Mundt
of South Dakota, speaking before a
recent convention. He said, "if business
does not get further into politics—poli-
tics assuredly will get further into busi-
ness." I believe those to be sincere words
of wisdom which we should all remem-
ber, not only in 1952, but in the years
ahead as well.
NAMM to Launch New Program
The Executive Committee of NAMM
recently authorized the organization of
an Education Division at Association
Headquarters to aid members in build-
ing their sales through the elementary
school systems. A Director of Education
has been recently added to the NAMM
staff, who will organize this new proj-
ect and carry it out.
W.N.E.L. cooperated with an extra
half hour. It was a special children's
program for the benefit of every child

have Education Divisions within their
own stores and have found them highly
productive in new sales beyond regular
store activity.
Plan of Action
NAMM's Director of Education will
hold meetings with member dealers
throughout the country, and in the be-
ginning, these meetings will be held in
the larger cities where dealers have
successfully sponsored an AMC class
piano clinic. It is these cities where the
dealers have successfully completed the
"opening play" of interesting schools
in group music programs and where
member dealers are working together.
After the first of the year, NAMM's
new project will be "road tested" in
San Antonio, Texas, where its introduc-
tion will be perfected and the future
pattern of field activities established.
Individual members will also benefit by
this new project through direct assist-
ance from the NAMM Education Divi-
sion.
The new project will detail the or-
ganizing of school assembly programs,
where children will be interested in
rhythm bands, melody instruments,
class piano and band and orchestra in-
struments. The fitting of instruments to
children, and the complete follow up
where new sales are consummated.
Many such dealer's activities lead to
establishing studios within their own
stores, for teaching all instruments to
both children and adults. NAMM will
also blueprint these studio teaching
procedures.

A terrific noise announced the com-
ing of Santa Claus. The noise was so
great because a piano "fell" from his
pack and Santa Claus entered from
back stage, greeted with yells, hurras
and applause, etc. Immediately he sat
at a piano to play music of the season.
Then Mrs. Nin told the story of
Ramirito and interviewed two little
girls and two boys, all Mrs. Nin pupils,
to find out that they, actually, honestly
and sincerely prefer their piano classes
to base-ball, etc.
This was followed by three of Mrs.
Nin's little stars playing at two pianos
and two solos the last one. a child of
eight, who made a big hit. (The Teen

After another terrific noise, as an-
other piano "fell" from his big cargo
of pianos, Santa Claus again came to
our stage, to announce that he had a
present and some ice cream for the
children, after the show.
"In the afternoon Santa Claus pa-
raded the streets of the best suburbs."
said Mrs. Nin, "and we had one of our
best Xmas sales!"
Fields of Endeavor
The fields in which the Education
Division will be engaged is broad, and
will include the elementary schools,
(public, parochial, private and spe-
cial), Parent Teachers Associations,
Mother's Clubs, etc. Different ap-
proaches will be used for Service Clubs
and Veteran groups, industrial recrea-
tion and teacher's clinics on band,
piano, strings and other instruments.
NAMM Will Help Guide
Local Projects
NAMM's Education Director will
meet with local members, explain the
advantages to be gained in stores estab-
lishing their own education divisions,
and answer all questions regarding
their new program. Meetings will be
held with member's sales personnel,
department heads and others who will
e*ngage in the project.
After the project is explained and
has been accepted by local store man-
agement, and the details of how to
operate the project are given to the
store personnel, the NAMM Education
Director will, in most instances, assist
in organizing a school assembly in
order to demonstrate the application of
the education operation. PTA and Serv-
ice Club programs may also be ar-
ranged as part of the field work. With
this assistance, local projects will be
off to a good start, and records of their
progress will be kept at NAMM head-
