OBITUARIES
READ A. DIMMOCK
• Read A. Dimmock, president and
general manager of the Fowler Piano
Co., Inc., of Binghamton, N. Y., passed
away on August 27, at the age of 81
years.
Mr. Dimmock was born in London,
England, and came to the United States
at the age of 21. His first connection
with the music business was as a retail
salesman for Norris & Hyde, piano
manufacturers, at Roxbury Crossing,
Boston. When the Norris & Hyde and
Merrill piano manufacturing operations
were merged at Lawrence, Mass., Mr.
Dimmock moved to that city as retail
sales manager in the community. Later
a retail store was opened, separate from
the factory, and Mr. Dimmock operated
that store as manager. Later he was
manager of the M. Steinert & Son Co.
retail store in Lawrence.
In the year 1904 Mr. Dimmock
bought an interest in the music business
of R. G. Knuepfer in Lawrence and the
firm name was changed to Knuepfer &
Dimmock. In 1914, Mr. Dimmock sold
his interest in Knuepfer & Dimmock to
his partner and shortly afterward en-
tered the business in Binghamton.
Mr. Dimmock's is survived by his
widow, Mrs. Agnes G. Dimmock. He
had been a member of the National As-
sociation of Music Merchants for many
years, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
He was also a member of the Bing-
hamton Chamber of Commerce and of
Trinity Church of that city.
