Sells 25 Carloads of Pianos
In 25 Months from This Little Store
Out in Nampa, Idaho, they have
what is called Pathfinder Survey which
this year was held the first week in
May, the same as National Music Week.

Merchandise! Large crowds of enthu-
siastic people seemed anxious to buy.
"We were very lucky to get a car-
load of used pianos on Tuesday of
Pathfinder which helped out consider-
ably, also the Gulbransen Co. sent us
a couple of spinets so we have a very
desirable display for the event. It may
interest you also to know that from
our little store we have sold 25 car-
loads in 25 months. We have also sent
five pianos to Pacific College at New-
berg, Oregon. This is eight they have
purchased in the last year and it might
interest you to know also that one of
these is going to Bolivia, S. A.
after traveling steadily for several
months which terminated in a visit to
the Winter plant in New York, decided
to take a vacation. When he left, how-

as said he just couldn't believe any of
Guy's fish stories until he actually had
the proof. So accompanying this story
is the proof. Guy did it with his own
little rod and with him is Mrs. Knowles,
of Evanston, 111., who with her father
Frank Darby and her brother Bud were
members of the party. "I managed to
feed a lot of fish," said Guy, "but did
bring in some of this catch of 35, to
be exact 3. Not so hot a fisherman, I
can tell the world; selling pianos is my
forte."

Standard Piano Hammer Co. Now
Settled in New Spacious Quarters
The Standard Piano Hammer Co. is
now settled in its new and much larger
quarters at 3220 W. Grand Avenue,

The new plant is of modern fireproof
construction and such department is
lighted with fluorescent lighting.
In the accompanying illustrations,
three departments are shown. One is
of the pressroom. In this department,
sheets of 100% wool felt are cut, re-
inforced, and glued to the solid birch-
wood hammer mouldings. The tem-
Col. Schmidt Returns
To Wurlitzer Organization
Lt. Col. Edward Schmidt, Jr., hon-
orably discharged from the United
States Army Air Forces in February,
has rejoined the Rudolph Wurlitzer Co.
at DeKalb, 111., and is again active in
the company's sales department.
A member of the Illinois National
Guard, he left Wurlitzer a little more
than five years ago to enter active
military service and was assigned to
Headquarters Company of the 129th
Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant.
A short time later he was transferred
to the Eighth Air Force and departed
for the United Kingdom. He remained
with the Eighth Air Force as Squad-
ron Commander until October, 1943,
at which time his Squadron was trans-
ferred to IX Tactical Air Command
of the Ninth Air Force.
During the invasion of France, Col.
Schmidt was with the troops of the
ground forces as Air Corps represen-
tative. He was also on hand for the
liberation of Paris and the break-
through at the Battle of the Bulge.
After VE Day, he became Operation
Officer for the 9th Tactical Control
Group, a newly formed unit destined
for the Pacific. Later he became Group
Commander of the same organization.
Decorations received by him while in
service include: The Air Medal with

Another is the Sanding and Slicing
Department. After the glued and dried
sets of piano hammers, which are made
up in one long tapered sheet, leave the
pressroom they are sanded, cleaned,
sliced, and given a process inspection
in this department.

added: "We have a large.experienced,
and well trained personnel and our
facilities are now available to the en-
tire piano manufacturing industry as
well as the many thousands of piano
tuner-technicians thruout the world."

He first joined Wurlitzer in 1935
with the intention of learning all about
the manufacturing and merchandising
of pianos. .Starting, in the mill room,
Schmidt worked a certain length of
time in various departments of the fac-
tory until he gained a comprehensive
knowledge of piano construction. Then
he was transferred to the production
department, cost accounting, service
and sales departments. Just before he
left for Army service, he was assist-
ing Hugh Stewart, vice president and
sales manager, and that is the position
to which he has returned.
