PANEL CORES
Special care for important
hidden piano parts
This photograph shows how plywood panel
cores are made at the great Wurlitzer
plant at DeKalb. They are built of narrow
strips of seasoned wood which are selected,
quarter-turned and carefully glued together.
Quarter-turning of these strips reduces the
possibility of twisting and takes advantage of
the natural expansion and contraction of the
wood to keep panel surfaces smooth and level.
Before adding the highly finished figured ve-
neers, inspections and moisture tests make sure
the wood has the correct moisture content.
This extra care given to hidden parts of
Wurlitzer pianos is usually limited to custom
cabinetmakers. The modern Wurlitzer plant
is leaving no stone unturned to speed pro-
duction of the finest pianos we have ever
built. But remember, there are no short cuts
