Lopez and Orchestra
Enter Talking Pictures
Vincent Lopez, the popular orchestra leader,
whose St. Regis Orchestra is heard regularly
over the radio stations in the N. B. C. chain, is
soon to make his initial bow to patrons of the
talking screen in a new two-reel film version

of "Alexander's Ragtime Band," which is being
produced in Pathe's Long Island studios.
Sharing honors with Lopez in this newest
talkie skit will be the memers of his orchestra,
including Anthony Oliver and Joe Ribaud, the
Gibson banjo and guitar artists, who find sev-
eral opportunities during, the course of the film
to demonstrate their artistic abilities.
Lopez has just recently returned with his or-
Distinctly modern; narrow-lined, rakish as a custom-built Sport Model
automobile; wondrously graceful: in workmanship worthy of the master
artist in metal, Benvenuto Cellini; so easy blowing as to be veritably
sensitive to a sigh; built of the finest French light yellow Trumpet Brass
hand-hammered to fine and true a temper as to have all the ring and all
the carrying power to dominate even a circus band!—that, together, with
all the other virtues of the world famous Martin Handcraft (hand-built)
Line, is Martin's New Sport Model Trumpet, Trombone, and Cornet.

Joe Ribaud
chestra from a tour of Great Britain, where they
played, among other houses, the London Hip-
podrome, where the orchestra was billed as a
lieadliner, staging their own show, "The Jazz
Master." In addition to their theatre and night
club engagements in London, the entire group
of Yankee musicians was presented to London
society by the Duke of Marlborough.
Vincent Lopez and his Orchestra are per-
haps the most enterprising of the score of mod-
ern music-makers playing Gotham. Their popu-
larity has been increased a thousand-fold by
their appearances in the Caza Lopez night club,
their radio broadcasts and society engagements.
Lopez announced recently his intention of
giving more prominence to fretted instrumental
music, as a result of the increasing demands for
this type of music. That fretted instruments
are increasing in popular choice, Lopez said, is
evidenced in the growing popularity of his ban-
joist and guitarist.
Both Ribaud and Oliver have recently allied
themselves with Gibson, Inc., by securing the
most valuable Gibson instruments, Lopez an-
nounced. Lopez, while known from coast to
coast as a pianist, has a secret regard for fret-
ted intsruments which is not generally sus-
pected, for his first venture into the world of
music was with a mandolin.
