AEOLIAN CO. has for many years
T HE
been among the most consistent users of
newspaper advertising space among the piano
houses of New York, with the result that even
when general conditions are far from satisfac-
tory the company's retail business in New York
keeps up at a very satisfactory rate. Not long
ago C. Alfred Wagner, vice-president of the
company, saw fit to write a letter to the New
York Evening Journal, setting forth the promi-
nent part played by newspaper advertising in
the company's success and said he considered
advertising chiefly responsible for an increase
of fifteen per cent in the company's piano sales
during September as compared with last year.
The letter was considered worthy of a full
page announcement in the Evening Journal
early last month, paying high tribute to the
Aeolian Co. Naturally the page was inserted
without cost to the company and proved a
valuable piece of publicity both to the Aeolian
Co. and the entire piano trade.

New Lester Style "S" Grand
struction, and, like all Lester scales, was drawn
by Paul M. Zeidler.
The style "S" was brought out in view of
the need of a good piano which would be in
keeping with the modern idea of economizing
space. This grand, despite its minute size, has
remarkable tone amplitude and is expected to
find great favor with apartment and small home
owners.
R. W. Lawrence Talks
on Recent Trip to Russia
A large gathering of piano manufacturers and
retail music merchants recently listened to a
very enlightening talk on Russia and the Land
of the Midnight Sun by Richard W. Lawrence.
The meeting, which was composed of the mem-
bers of the New York Piano Manufacturers'
Association and the New York Piano Merchants'
Association, was called together by Albert Behn-
ing, secretary, at a luncheon at the National
Republican Club. Mr. Behning then turned the
iloor over to Charles Jacob, Jr., who, when in-
troducing Mr. Lawrence, produced a red beard
which he claimed was the one that Mr. Law-
rence wore while he was in Russia.
After his most interesting talk Mr. Lawrence
was subjected to a number of questions re-
garding certain conditions in Russia which
added further to the enjoyment of his address.
Marshall S. Bancroft, veteran executive of
the Bell Piano and Organ Co., Guelph, Out.,
and a member of its staff for more than forty
years, died recently in his home there in his
96th year, after a brief illness.

Your 1931 Pianos
KOHLER-BRAMBACH
will build fine pianos for your cus-
tomers in 1931—pianos from the
little Tom Thumb of five octaves to
Concert size Reproducers—to sell
from $250 to $2,500.
The Kohler Industries have been for thirty years an
important source of supply—building a business on
one thought "The Best in the World for the Money."
This is possible by running a modern factory capacity
—employing only up-to-date equipment—using only
sound materials that make pianos stand up and will
be musical instruments,
after years of service.
