CHICAGO, I I I . , May 19.—A sale which brought to
light a few interesting details regarding the ca-
reer of a most versatile and eminent artist is
one recently made of a I.yon & Healy concert
harp to the Baroness Violet B. Wenner by R. J.
Keenley, manager of the harp department of
Lyon & Healy.
Baroness Wenner is on a tour of this coun-
try and recently stopped in Chicago. The
Baroness has not only studied with some of the
greatest harpists of England, but has also
achieved distinction as a painter, having studied
under the tutelage of Professor Von Angeli,
a very famous painter of European nobility.
Among the many notables she has painted are
the former Kaiser, the late Franz Joseph, and
Marchioness of Cambridge and her children.
Before coming to America she was solo harp-
ist with the Halle Orchestra, under the direc-
tion of Franz Richter, noted for his Wagnerian
Bayreuth Festival performances.
Asked concerning her choice of the Lyon &
Healy concert harp, the Baroness stated: "In
my travels here and abroad I have found that
my harp is subjected not only to much han^
dling, but also to the rigors of violent climatic
changes. One reason, therefore, why I prefer
the Lyon & Healy concert harp is its sturdy
construction and its remarkable ability to resist
the retrograding effects of varying climates."

Issues New Catalog
CHICAGO, I I I . , May 7.—The American Plating
& Mfg. Co., 20 East Cullerton street, which
makes a large line of accessories for musical
instruments in addition to plating and repairing
band instruments, has issued a new catalog
and price list announcing several new acces-
sories. These include a combination banjo
arm rest and pick holder, Hawaiian guitar pick
and several other new items.
The company also manufactures, in addition
to a line of banjo ukuleles, a number of novelty
instruments, including bird whistle, steamboat
whistle, cuckoo whistle, vocal jazz-sax.

Issue "Here They Gome"
CHICAGO, 111., May 21.—The popular booklet en-
titled "Here They Come," published by Lud-
wig & Ludwig, has again been issued in a fifth
revised edition. This book deals with the
organization of drum corps and includes many

important educational facts and interesting
articles on drum corps history and develop-
ment. It is well illustrated with photographs
and attractive pen illustrations and also carries
illustrations of the various models of Ludwig
drums used in drum corps divisions.
Of particular interest are photographs of
some of the prize-winning American Legion
drum corps entered in the American Legion
Convention held in Paris, France, in 1927. The
booklet includes many other new features and
will be of particular value to the dealer who
is co-operating \ n the promotion of drum corps.
Buescher Stars at
Boston Benefit Concert
BOSTON, MASS., May 19.—A monster hand con-
cert was recently held in the Mechanics' Build-
ing .as a benefit to the Relief Association
formed of members of the Boston Local of the
American Federation of Musicians. From all
of Boston's musicians three outstanding players
on their respective instruments were selected
as soloists. These were John A. Jacobson.
trumpet; Andrew Jacobson, saxophone, and
Thomas F. Deveney, slide trombone. These
men were selected because they were consid-
ered to be outstanding musicians not only in
Boston, but throughout the entire New Eng-
land States.
Another feature of the concert was Thomas
M. Carter, honorary conductor of the program,
and who personally conducted one of the num-
bers. Mr. Carter is eighty-four years old and

still actively engaged in teaching trumpeting.
He is looked upon as one of the best teachers
in New England. All three of these soloists
play Buescher instruments. Mr. Carter himself
enthusiastically recommends Buescher trumpets
to his pupils.
Larson Back at Desk
CHICACO, 111., May 19.—F. E. Larson, treasurer
of Ludwig & Ludwig, Inc., who has been ill
for several months on the Pacific Coast, has en-
tirely recovered and is now back at his desk
at the office. He is looking very fit and has
been warmly received by his many friends in
the trade.
