has severed his connection with this firm and
has organized his own business under the name
of Water Kane, Inc. Mr. Kane has taken a
large suite in the Hilton Building, 1595 Broad-
way, and held his formal opening during
the week of July 25.
The new company will handle a complete
stock of sheet music, books, orchestrations and
supplies and it is Mr. Kane's aim to eliminate
all delays on shorts. His many friends in the
trade and his thorough familiarity with condi-
tions in the music business assure his success
in his new venture.
Several score of Mr. Kane's friends in the
publishing and retail trade crowded the estab-
lishment during the early days of the week
from early morning until late in the afternoon.
A large number of floral tributes and telegram
messages from all parts of the country, wishing
him success, added much to the spirit of the
place during the opening.
Harms, Inc., Releases
New European Success
"Lonely" Likely to Duplicate Its Success There
—"When Day* Is Done" Leading Firm's
Catalog
Following the remarkable success obtained
with "When Day Is Done," Harms, Inc., has
just released "Lonely," which likewise was
known in Europe before being tried in America.
Resigns From Crown Music Co. and Forms The number was known abroad under the
Water Kane, Inc., With Offices at 1595 French title, "J'ai pau su y faire" and possesses
a lilting appeal that takes hold instantly. "When
Broadway
Day Is Done" continues to be the leader in
Water Kane, who has been identified for the the Harms popular catalog, but it will be no
past twenty years with the Crown Music Co., surprise to executives of the firm if "Lonely"
prominent New York jobber in sheet music, runs it a close second.
Another new Harms release is "Barbara," a
bright melodious number, which gives every
indication of becoming an overnight success.
The song is already in demand by orchestra
leaders in the big Eastern resorts and the com-
pany is countering with a strong exploitation
campaign. The words of "Barbara" are by
Billy Rose and the music by Abner Silver.
