Some of the largest stores in the country
are featuring the Shefte course in attractive
window displays, as shown by two well-known
Chicago houses, Lyon & Healy and the Gamble
Hinged Music Co. Both show the complete
set of nine volumes of the Shefte course with
the special display stand that is supplied by the
Forster Music Publisher.
The Shefte Rapid Course in Popular Music
includes books for beginners as well as for
advanced pupils and musicians, each compiled
with the idea of giving the public a sound and
easily mastered short course in playing popular
music upon the piano. Volume 1 is for begin-
ners, Volume 2 for those who have had some
instruction and Volume 3 for advanced pupils
or pianists. The supplementary books are
"Scales and Arpeggios," "Keyboard Harmony,"
"Jazz Bass," "Jazz Breaks," "Hot Breaks" and
"Blue Breaks."
Hundreds of people were attracted to the
windows shown herewith and into the stores
to make further inquiry about this new and
rapid method of learning how to play the
Shefte course offers a short cut to piano play-
ing and enables the pianist to master the course
within a few months, doing away with all the
unnecessary, tiresome,, monotonous exercises
and years of practice.
The company has also launched a sales cam-
paign to the dealer and representatives will
carry a personal message to the music dealers
throughout the country, explaining that this
course has been developed to meet the modern
demand for short methods, because with the
change in times methods of playing the piano
have to change accordingly. In addition to a
special display stand, the company is also sup-
plying the dealer with window strips, catalogs
and literature for mailing pu poses.
One large house in a city of a million popula-
tion made arrangements with a local music
school to give three free lessons with each
order of five books. Dealers in the Chicago
territory and others who have featured the
Shefte books are enthusiastic over the results.
Leading musicians and musical instructors
have endorsed this popular method for its thor-
oughness and scientific accuracy, and its general
value.

This number gives indication of becoming one
of the most popular ballads in the Witmark
Black and White Series and has been listed by
the phonograph companies with a strong im-

are coming in nightly for it. A short time ago
the song was sung by the Silver Masked Tenor,
one of the regular features of the hour pre-

under the direction of Joseph Knecht. The
singer had to repeat the number in the course
of the evening due to the many requests for it

Many Publishers Show School Music Material
at Aeolian Hall During Current Week
The second annual exposition of school music
materials, conducted under the auspices of the
educational department of the Aeolian Co., New
York, was held during the past week in the
new Aeolian Building, 689 Fifth avenue. This
event, inaugurated last year at the old Aeolian
Hall, West Forty-second street, is arranged by
the Aeolian Co. to assist the music supervisors
taking Summer courses in local universities in
becoming familiar with the catalogs and spe-
cial editions of the leading publishers of
school music.
Officials of the educational department of the
Aeolian Co. estimate that several thousand
music teachers and other instructors, who are
interested in school music, have attended the
exposition both years and have benefited ex-
tensively by so doing. Visiting teachers and
supervisors have included those taking courses
