Shefte Piano Course
Being Widely Advertised
Publicity Appearing in Periodicals of More
Than 5,000,000 Circulation and on Orches-
tral Arrangements of 600,000
CHICAGO, I I I . , October 29.—There is growing
evidence that the Forster Music Publisher is go-
ing to have much to do with spreading piano
playing with the "Shefte Rapid Course in Popular
Music and Syncopation for the Piano" which was
recently introduced.
Endorsements from some of the country's most
prominent teachers that are rather startling have
come to the firm, for the course is rapidly winning
favor among prominent piano teachers and
musicians since it is being realized that the Shefte
method is not going to take anything away from
the standard teachers, but instead is going to add
to their income, for by teaching popular music
they will be winning interest.
The Forster Music Publisher, realizing that
this is an age of speed where people are no longer
willing to spend years in learning to play the
piano, has introduced this modern way of teach-
ing popular music in a correct musical way. Art
Shefte, teacher of popular music, who conceived
this course, devised this fundamentally musically
correct but short-route method. After a careful
survey, which showed the need for such a course,
the Forster Music Publisher launched a large
campaign to introduce this method to the public.
The advertising is carried in 5,000,000 copies of
publications, going to that many music lovers, while
600,000 orchestral arrangements bearing these ad-
vertisements will carry it to another 3,000,000 in-
terested people. Announcements are being sent to
every club, music school teacher, etc., which total
over 750,000. Every advertisement carries the
line: "On Sale Wherever Music Is Sold."
To date over 1,000 music dealers, 136 of which

are exclusive piano dealers, have co-operated in
this campaign, and are doing a large business in
meeting the demand for the Shefte books. The
whole campaign is to stimulate an interest in piano
playing and all dealers in the music industry
should lend their co-operation to anything that is
for the good of the business in general.
Not only is the course promoting piano playing,
but it aids in the sale of pianos, for the instru-
ments will sell more rapidly when people know
that they can learn to play almost immediately.
It has also been found that people who own pianos
will take a new interest in them when they know
that there is a popular course that makes possible
playing in a short space of time, and it is the aim
of the Forster Publisher that it should be possible
for everyone to play the piano.
A dealer in Bridgeport, Conn., in referring to
the course, says: "To date this has sold more of
itself than anything we have put in our window,"
which is an example of the many testimonials
that the company has received since the introduc-
tion of the Shefte method.

CINCINNATI, O., October 31.—Ray Lammers is
building up a good sheet music department in
his new store opened this month at 123 East
Sixth street. Mr. Lammers also has added a
line of orchestrations to his stock. "I am very
much interested in having publishers of dance
orchestrations send me particulars of what they
have to offer, and I wish you would state that
I would be glad to hear from them," stated
Mr. Lammers. He now has teachers who in-
struct and rehearse professional dance or-
chestras in his store evenings, the place
meanwhile being kept open to the public. His
arrangers and teachers of harmony are Charles
Clure and Ray Rayburn, the latter being from
New York.
