week ending September 17. The steady rise
in popularity of six numbers of the De Sylva,
Hrown & Henderson catalog lately led to the
plan of having the trade focus attention on
them for the period of a week, to be designated
by the name of the publishers.
"De Sylva, Brown & Henderson Week" was
a distinct success in such cities as Philadelphia,
Washington, Cleveland, Toledo, Detroit and
others, many stores creating window displays
and still others getting admirable results with
counter displays and phonograph plugs. The
numbers featured were "Magnolia," "Broken-
Hearted," "So Blue," "Positively—Absolutely,"
"Baby Feet Go Fitter Patter" and "South
Wind."
A specially attractive window, showing these
six hits, was arranged by the McCrory store
No. 63, in Philadelphia. In the foreground was
a large poster, listing the hits, and the back-
ground was made up of De Sylva, Brown &
Henderson numbers exclusively. Phonograph
records of these numbers were set among the
sheet music on white paper doilies. The re-
sult of the display here was most satisfactory,
as the sales of both music and records of these
numbers reached a new high figure during the
week. The experience of this McCrory branch
was duplicated by many other stores and sheet
music departments during De Sylva, Brown &
Henderson Week.

New York
Fred Fisher, Inc., New York, has just released
a song which is expected to write a startling
bit of sheet music history. The title of the
number is "There's a Convent by the Beautiful
Sea," the lyric telling a touching story, and
winding up with an effective climax. The song,
words and music of which are by Fred Fisher,
writer of "Dardanella," "Peg O' My Heart,"
"Ireland Must Be Heaven" and others, are of
the spontaneous sort and can be characterized
as a "scenario in song."
It will be very extensively exploited by the
Fred Fischer organization, and, having already
met with highly favorable recognition on the
part of the trade, record and roll companies
and p. ofessionals, is predicted to be as unusual
and spectacular as "The Prisoner Song."
