What Is Your Answer?

HIGHLY competitive situation exists in every industry. Even more
pronounced is this today than ever before. And so the uppermost
question in the retail music merchant's mind should be, "What is my
future?"
In the drug field, in the line of groceries, in the sale of tobacco,
and in general merchandise, et cetera, distribution to the public of the
respective commodities is made through great syndicates directing and
controlling an almost endless number of chain stores. This competi-
tion, legitimate in itself, threatens the very existence of the independ-
ent retailer. Does this situation not prompt a serious thought on the
part of every retail music merchant? And would it not be well to ask
yourself these questions?
Am I an independent music dealer?
Do I wish to continue so?
How can I protect my business now and in the future?
Do I realize the effect of chain store competition?
Is my wholesaler my competitor?
Does he support me, an independent merchant,
solely and exclusively?

An organization which has steadfastly s e r v e d , supported and ad-
vanced the interests of many, many thousands of independent music
merchants for a period approaching one hundred years, continues to of-
fer its valuable services and co-operation to present day independent
music retailers.
