WASHINGTON, D. C, November 6.—The Auto
Pneumatic Action Co., New York, has secured
through assignment of patent the manufactur-
ing rights in an important patent invention em-
DavidH.SchmidtCo.
Hubert J. Lajoie, of East Orange, N. J., and
Ubert Urquhart and Frank Pokorny, of New
York, patentees, who assigned the patent to the
Auto Pneumatic Action Co. One of the seven
claims on which the patent was allowed is the
following:
"An expression unit comprising a governing
and expression controlling valve or valves, a
governing pneumatic and spring, an expression
controlling pneumatic and valves therefor, these
parts being assembled and put together as a unit
of manufacture capable of being mounted on
the top of a piano action."

WASHINGTON, D. C, November 8.—The Depart-
ment of Commerce announces that, according
to data collected at the latest semi-annual can-
vass of paint and varnish manufacturers, there
were produced during the six months' period
pounds of combination or graded whites, 3,502,-
500 pounds of zinc oxide in oil and 64,542,200
pounds of other paste paints; 45,402,100 gallons
of ready mixed and semi-paste paints, includ-
ing enamels; 38,081,400 gallons of varnishes,
japans and lacquers, other than pyroxylin, and
10,136,800 gallons of pyroxylin (nitrocellulose).
The statistics for the first half of 1926, as
compared with those for the second half of
1925, show decreases of 6.8 per cent and 3.9 per
cent, respectively, for paste paints, enamels and
ready mixed and semi-paste paints, an increase
of 10.7 per cent for varnishes, japans and lac-
quers, other than pyroxylin, and an increase of
62.9 per cent varnishes for pyroxylin or lacquers.
