How One Piano Tuner Does have
harder to please than most of my customers.

Side of Piano Key Where It Cannot Be Mis-
laid or Overlooked by a Customer
An interesting story of how one piano tuner
keeps his name before customers is told in a
recent issue of "Otar, the Sales Maker," the
house organ issued by the Blanchard Press,
New York, the story being as follows:
He had just finished tuning the piano. His
thin, nimble fingers had run off the final tinkling
trill on the upper notes, and the delicate regis-
tration seemed to please and fully satisfy him.
The piano was tuned.
He snapped his little black bag shut.
"And now," he said, "you will want your piano
tuned again in about three months. I think I
mislaid it by the time I will be needed again,
so," stepping to the piano, "I will rubber stamp
my name on the side of the lowest white note.
It will not show unless you press down the next
note, and neither of those keys is used in most
piano music.
"You might lose my card. But you cannot
mislay your piano. So when your instrument
next annoys you by being out of tune, push this
key down—there is my telephone number. Call
me and I'll come right over."
That piano tuner is busy all of the time. He
has a steady list of clients. And he told me
in confidence that his little trick of stamping
his name on the key is responsible. Before he
originated the idea his business was slack; he
had to solicit work.
The value of an idea!

Danquard School in South
A trip through the South was started recently
by the Danquard Player Action School, which is
operated jointly by the Standard Pneumatic Action
Co. and the Auto Pneumatic Action Co., New
York, for the purpose of giving tuners and tech-
nicians free instruction in the care and repair of
these actions. The Southern trip is under the
supervision of Milton L. Cheek, general director of
the school. The first stops on the itinerary have
lu'en Louisville, Ky., and Memphis, Tenn., and the
week of February 15 has b^en spent in Little Rock,
Ark. After Little Rock the school will visit Dal-
las, Tex., on March 8, and Houston, Tex., on
March 29. Other cities on schedule for visits by
the school are New Orleans, Birmingham and
Atlanta—dates to be announced later.
Southern tuners thus have the opportunity to
study this reproducing action.

From the experience of Wessell, Nickel &
Gross, makers of the Wessell, Nickel & Gross
piano action, it would seem that the small grand
piano is going to enjoy another year of excep-
tional popularity. Orders placed for small
grand actions with Wessell, Nickel & Gross
during the month of January surpassed all rec-
ords for this month in the history of the organ-
ization. As these orders are all for early deliv-
ery, none of them later than May 1, it would
seem that the piano manufacturer is planning
large production of this type of piano during
1926.

Lutkins, Inc., New York, importers of pouch

made stops in Ohio and Indiana en route to
Chicago, spending several days there. He re-
turned by way of St. Louis, Mo., and Louisville,
Ky., and reported an excellent condition of
